Costco Haul and Recommendations

Today I’m sharing a portion of our Costco haul and recommendations on what we like.

My allergies have been insane this month and I needed some more generic Allegra.  Costco has the best price on that (cough, cough) so we took the plunge and headed there on a Sunday morning.

Everyone who doesn’t go to the AM church service was there to greet us.  We arrived 15 minutes prior to opening and Costco had already opened their doors, so the line for carts and to enter was starting to thin about a bit.  Good grief.

Now here’s the thing.  I go to Costco once a year.  Not exaggerating.  Hub goes at least once a week, but while I work, it’s one of his activities.  Along with a daily Home Depot visit, of course.  When I need my eyeglasses updated, I make the rounds through the store, but otherwise I stay away.

And he never goes on the weekend.

But we put on the full armor of God and our SWAT gear.  And brave soldiers we are, we made quite the haul.

Remember when the joke was that you couldn’t leave Costco without spending at least $100?  Then it was $300?  Well, we spent more money without coming out of the store with TV than I thought humanly possible.

Can I remind you here that I no longer have a job?!

Well, no matter.  Here are some of the recommendations I have for you.

King Pillows

Spring bedding is already on our bed and when I changed that, I changed out our king pillows that go into the shams.  They are still a bit skimpy, so when I saw the sale for a two-pack of pillows for under $20 I snagged them.  We don’t sleep on king pillows, so nice and fluffy and inexpensive are the requirements.  Check!

Shelf Organizer

Being a sucker for anything organizing, and though shelf organizing was nowhere near any upcoming plans, the sale on a four-pack of racks for $18 made me start seeing possibilities in our kitchen cupboards.

I am in love!  Using these racks means I no longer have to nest bowls and stack plates.  It means I can bring shorter glasses onto a lower shelf. That I can actually reach without a ladder.  Which means I’ll use my lovely glasses more frequently.

Why did I never consider this before?

Recommend, for sure.

Kitty Supplies

Cat litter was on sale and is in constant need around here, so I took advantage of the sale and bought a huge pack.  The Friskies pate is a risk because it’s not what the girls usually eat for their morning treat, but cat food prices have sky rocketed and purchasing in bulk comes out to less than 60 cents a can.  A big savings.  Fingers crossed they will eat it.

The kitty cookies were not on sale but hub said we needed a refill so I picked them up.  We didn’t, as it turned out, so we have lots of treats now.

Sweets

Unreal Bars and Highkey Mini Cookies are new to me.  They are basically no sugar and I’m always on the lookout for a healthier treat.  And then I usually eat the whole bag in one sitting.

Well, these are pretty expensive and the coconut minis are individually wrapped, so I’m committed to one serving a day.

In service to you, dear reader, I ate some of both so I could honestly post and I recommend!  With a cup of tea in the evening works well.

Marinara

Our favorite Trader Joe’s marinara is no longer available and we’ve been on the hunt for a couple of years looking to replace it.  Rao’s has been the closest we’ve found.

On our roadtrip, we decided to make spaghetti in our hotel and took a trip to a local store in Lafayette.  I immediately picked up the Rao’s because that’s what we always get and then.

I noticed it was over $8 for a small jar.  Ummmm.  No.

Costco’s price is nearly half that cost.  Even less is their own brand of marinara, so I picked that up too and I’ll let you know what I think when it makes it to our meal rotation.

Fully Cooked Bacon

Costco’s bacon is famous.  It’s so good and so easy it should be outlawed.  Like crack.  The price is great for the number of servings.  So if you’re looking to add more bacon to your diet (and really, who isn’t?), this is a highly recommend!

Wrap Up

Thank you as always for sharing my journey.  I know several who have heavy hearts now and I am sending love and prayers for you and yours.  God bless you and your week ahead.
