Winter Quilt – The Look for Less

My goal for this year’s winter bedroom was a cozy look without looking Christmassy.  So time for a new winter quilt, but the look for less.

Warm bedding in our house usually goes from the beginning of December through February and I don’t want to change everything out mid-season.

So the search began for a medium weight quilt or comforter.  Duvets are way too much for us.

Something comfy and fluffy and wintery.  But not too holidayish.

Here is what I came up with.

Pottery Barn Quilt

The most snuggliest, yet minimal, quilt I found is the Alpine Faux Fur Quilt from Pottery Barn.  The king size sells for $349.  Shams sold separately.

And then.  The hunt was on.  Finding the look for less.  Duping is really my hobby.

Walmart Comforter

From Walmart.com, the Mainstays brand has a faux fur three-piece comforter set for $55.  It is so pretty and in no way looks cheap.

It gets almost perfect reviews online.

I’m not usually a stay-in-bed-all-day kinda gal, but I do have one in the house and she seems to think this comforter is the best thing next to her birth mom.

PB Throw Pillow

The Faux Fur Snow Leopard Pillow from PB is $50 for the cover only and is so pretty and very popular now.

Personally, I would not use a fur pillow in any other season except winter, so let’s look for a cheaper option, shall we?

Look for Less Throw Pillows

Also from Walmart, I found a faux snow leopard throw pillow with the insert for $12.  It’s really, really pretty.  Not a lot of contrast on the bed, so I added a Lobo brown fur pillow I found at Costco.  I guess “lobo” means it came from a faux wolf.  Ha!

The Costco pillow is available in stores for $13 and it’s really good quality and looks so nice.

Wrap Up

Well, what do you think?  Did I achieve the cozy look I was going for this winter?

Pottery Barn still gives me a lot of inspiration and their looks still work for me.

Additionally, this bed is super easy to make without any fussy folding or poofing.

I’m happy with the result and I didn’t break the bank.  And I won’t be sorry to depart with the bedding when my taste changes next winter.

This week has been a mixture of good times and not such good times.  Lots of time with friends and fun activities.  But.  On the other hand?  The stainless steel behemoth (is that the right word?) we call a fridge is on its last leg.

We spent an evening moving everything out of it and ordering a new one.  Ka-ching $$$!  Well, we knew it was coming, but it’s still a painful process.

And because it’s built in, we have no wiggle room to order something we might like better.  Disappointing, but such is life.

And there are so many blessings to count.  So that’s where I am.

Big weekend plans?  God bless you and yours and I hope you’re enjoying this Christmas season.

  1. We replaced our big kitchen fridge last year…cha-ching…we get it. Best deal we found was at Spencers and we got 18 months same as cash ..no interest. Then last month we replaced the fridge in our pantry. That one was a lot less painful. Again, got a good deal at Spencers and 6 months same as cash.

Walmart is coming through with the goods. We also have a Walmart bedspread in our guest room.
