Cleaning

Soft Spring Cleaning

A full week of temps reaching into the 70s makes me think spring is sprung.  And while full-fledge spring cleaning isn’t in the cards “soft” spring cleaning is.

“Soft” Spring Cleaning

You know how restaurants have a soft grand opening before their big grand opening?  I decided I’m doing a soft spring cleaning.  Of course that doesn’t mean I’ll be doing a grand spring cleaning anytime soon, but I did go a bit above and beyond and hub helped me too!

Baseboards, Door Frames and Transoms

DF Barb tried out the old tennis ball on a pole trick and shared her testimony of how great it worked in her new, big and gorgeous house. She sent me a pic as well.

It’s been awhile since I’ve tackled our baseboards, door frames and transoms, so I put together the tennis ball, damp microfiber cloth onto a telescoping pole, secured with a rubber band and got every room done.

See why I call it spring cleaning?  That’s a lot, right?

Refrigerator

For people who cook almost every meal at home, our fridge basically looks like a curmudgeonly bachelor lives here.  So on one hand cleaning it out and wiping it down isn’t that big of a deal.

On the other hand it means the outside stainless will be even more smudged up and harder to polish.

Well, that’s just an excuse.  I hate cleaning the fridge.  But.  I did.  And I softly went through the freezer too.

Stove Top

Have you seen all the hype around Dawn Power Wash?  Apparently it can leap from tall buildings in a single bound.  Costco had it on sale so we tried it.  Well, hub tried it.

He might have been a little aggressive with the spray because he was cleaning up suds for quite a while.

He used it on the stove top, put the burners into the dishwasher, took off and cleaned the knobs.  I don’t think it’s ever looked so good.

After I get a chance to try it out on a few more things, I’ll dedicate a post to it.  Seems like it really might be worth the hype.

Beds

Costco’s Kirkland sheets I love and buy year after year never went on sale this year, so I bit the bullet and bought a set for our bed and the guest bed.

With warmer nights, I stripped the flannel sheets and new crispy cotton will be waiting for us at night.

The bright quilt set I bought for spring a couple of years ago still looks great.  It held up in the washer and dryer no problem.

It came out of the closet and our room is starting to look cheerful.  There isn’t enough time for spring cleaning and spring decorating, so bright and cheerful décor touches will have to wait.

Ceiling Fans

Forecast shows temps into the 80s next week so chances are we might need to use the ceiling fans.  They are too tall for me to dust on my regular cleaning rotation, so they probably really needed a good cleaning.

Hub went to his favorite store in the whole, wide world and bought an Unger Microfiber Ceiling Fan Duster.  It’s the same brand as the window washing sponge/squeegee he uses so it fit perfectly on his telescoping pole and he dusted all the ceiling fans.

Linen Closet

Changing out the sheets and bedspread was a good opportunity to get the linen closet tidied up.  I broke down all the gigantic bulk packaging our Costco goods come in, organized them in our wonderful Elfa door organizer and on the newly tidied shelves.

Several throw pillows, sheets sets, rugs, etc. made it to the donation pile.

Phew, am I glad that’s done.

Wrap Up

I know I owe some book reviews and recipes.  I’ll do an extra post this week and get myself up to date.

Have you started spring cleaning this year?  Do you plan to do it at all?  Or do you keep your home pristine at all times?

Let me know your routine!

God bless for a wonderful weekend.
