Bedroom Refresh

I’m sort of all done with neutrals.  And ready for a bright spring look.  So I’m starting in my bedroom with a little refresh.

Here is what I’ve done so far and some of my plans.

New Platform Bed

Platform Bed

The new platform bed from Overstock is up and all ready for new bedding.  So far it has worked out just fine and I love that I was able to keep my headboard.

Bedding

In a search for colorful and cheerful bedding online, I found selections from Anthropologie and Macy’s that were really pretty online.  At the end of the day, Macy’s bedding had better reviews and seemed to hold up better to laundering.  With three cats, that’s a must. The pricing was similar for both selections.

New Bedding

Comforters or quilt work better for us than duvets do, so I found this quilt set and was able to get a better price from JC Penney.  Turns out Amazon and Overstock carry this pattern too.  So it may not be terribly unique.  Oh, well.

Now.  I have all these neutral accessories in the room and this bright and shiny bedding.  Everything is all off now.  I need some accents to balance this new mess out, don’t you think?

Elephant Pillow

I thought this elephant pillow might be hokey, but oh, no. It’s not. It’s adorable.

Window Coverings

With the old drapes down, the woven woods look a little dreary.  Don’t know why because I loved them, but I feel like I need a change.  The plantation shutters we installed in the transoms this summer have turned out to be a good purchase, so I’m ordering for the two windows flanking the bed.

The white shutters will go a long ways towards brightening the room.

There is quite a long lead time after ordering, so now it’ll be a wait.  Dang. Don’t you just love instant gratification?

Drapery Rod

Drapery Rod

I know that sounds simple, but we had hideous rods up and while I think nobody would notice, this one is much prettier.  It’s a score that it’s from Home Depot, so part of you-know-who’s regular run and I didn’t have to go pick one out.

We needed one that somewhat matched our tiebacks and this is similar so it’s just fine..

We removed rods on the side windows that will get shutters and put up this prettier rod for the white drapes we have over the slider.

Art

Everything on the walls is old, old, old.  The fact is we have a lot of windows and very few walls, so art isn’t something I often shop for.

But I really need to brighten things up and tie them together. We took a little trip to At Home and TJ Maxx for some (ahem!) budget updates. It really is budget, by which I mean downright cheap, but we still spent several hundred dollars on this update.

This is what I got.

Metal Flower Wall Art

The wall next to the television needed something snappy.  The TV that never gets used.  But that cost a lot of money to have wired and installed so it’s not moving. Yes, I’m stubborn like that.

Floral Metal Wall Art

Luckily I found this long piece of art at At Home and it fits there perfectly.

Bright Floral Canvas

Let me tell you, I walked every aisle of that store looking at their art and it took a long time. That store is huge.

Bright Floral Canvas

Near the end of my travels (of course) I found these flowers on canvas in all the perfect colors of my bedding. Score.

White Floral Canvas

I found this farmhouse-y looking canvas of white flowers on the clearance rack and it could not be more beautiful in this spot and really livened it up.

Area Rug

I’m not sure about a new rug.  The current one is neutral and hub thinks it looks ok.  I’m wondering about something lighter.  With all the pattern on the comforter, I would be walking a thin line choosing something new.  Hmmm, maybe just take the rug up and go with the plain hardwood floor?

Any suggestions?

Tchotchkes

I did get a couple of updated tchotchkes for my bookcase and nightstand. Feeling influenced by spring I found a few birds. This picture does no justice, but this ceramic sachet bird smells so good and is so sweet.

Ceramic Bird Sachet

The Grace Mitchell line at At Home really catches my eye. I have quite a few selections now and I love that it’s all curated so you cannot really go wrong with what you’re purchasing.

Stay tuned for more on the bedroom. Oh, and by the way, Roxy and Kinsey approve.

Roxy and Kinsey Approving

The lighting and colors are more than usually wonky on this post. The project was finished over several days, and during that time, we had sun, clouds and downright dark ol’ rain. Which I’ve been praying for. For a really long time.

Thankful for the rain and enjoying a down day.

Have a wonderful week.

  1. Hi there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your content seem to be running off the screen in Opera. I’m not sure if this is a format issue or something to do with internet browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The design look great though! Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Thanks
