Summer Bedroom

Do you change out your bedding for the seasons?Ā  Cozy, dark colors and an extra layer or two of warmth in the winter.Ā  Bright and colorful bedding for spring.Ā  And for me, a perfect summer bedroom has always been stark white.

Experimenting with other colors in the summer has just never been satisfying, so itā€™s always white for me.

And, Iā€™m usually chomping at the bit to get my summer dĆ©cor out and done so I can forget about it for the season.  Getting outdoors to the pool or heading to the hills takes a priority over any household activities in the summer.

But this year?Ā  I didnā€™t get a summer bedroom until June!Ā  I know!

What was the hold up?Ā  First of all, we had the never-ending winter.Ā  Which isnā€™t really a complaint, by the way.Ā  In fact, lovely weather is still gracing mornings with cool air coming in open doors and windows.

I wanted to enjoy the spring bedding a little while since the winter bedding stayed on so long this year.

So thatā€™s why it took me until June to get this small project done in the bedroom.

And, let me just say, changing out the bedding is a project for me!

Hereā€™s why:

Strip the Bed and Wash Everything

I completely strip the bed and wash all the linens.Ā  I only purchase machine washable bedding and our washing machine can handle a king-size quilt on the ā€œLargeā€ setting.Ā  But all of it takes several loads.Ā  Which means half a day.

Since the weather is so nice, I try to line dry as much as I can.  The mattress pad dries faster on the line than it does in the dryer.

Please forgive me as I once again wax poetic about the joy I receive from line-dried sheets.Ā  And when the sheets are snow white, even better!

I wash and dry the heavy down blanket and I do need to make sure it is completely dry before I fold it and put it away for the season.

And now seeing this picture you know why all this laundry makes my house feels utterly destroyed.Ā

Vacuum the Mattress

The original Tuft and Needle model mattress we have does not get turned.Ā  Thatā€™s good, because memory foam mattresses are heavy.Ā

A good vacuuming seemed in order though.  I used the upholstery attachment on my vac and breezed right through it.

Notice the spiffy purple handle on the vac from hubā€™s replacement project?Ā  Itā€™s been working great!

Find the New Bedding

Iā€™ve had to separate the various bedding pieces into two different closets so I have to locate what I need in terms of pillows and shams and quilts.

I know this doesnā€™t sound like a big deal, but I store this stuff on really, really high shelves.  And I need a ladder.  And Iā€™m dead-set against ladders.

Minimizing ladder usage is a real thing at my age.  Any age over 40 if Iā€™m honest.

Get Kitty Approval

All good things in my house need the Roxy Seal of Approval.Ā  Of course, sheā€™s the first one who got to use the newly spruced up bed.Ā  No surprise there.

Wrap Up

So thatā€™s how a simple change of bedding can take up most of one day and an entire blog post.

I hope you have some fantastic weekend plans.Ā  DF Evon sent pics from Montauk and Iā€™m enjoying her vacation vicariously.Ā  A little seaside time sounds just perfect.
