February Potpourri

Nothing in particular, but here are a few things this February to chat about.

Outdoor activities

I know everyone is not as keen as we are here to get out and enjoy the mild weather.  But we have been hiking, walking, eating and even playing cards outside.

I treated myself to a breakfast burrito at the club after class and ate it poolside.  It felt like such a treat.

And it was a treat and I’ve had too many treats lately.  Time to pay the piper if you know what I mean.  Vegetable soup in the crockpot for today’s meal!

Around Town

Anthem Health & Wellness Club is hosting speaker Eva Carabello speaking on positivity on Wednesday the 28th.  I’m not familiar with her, but details are here.

Wildflowers are in bloom on the Ocotillo trail!  We did this 5+ mile loop and it was so pretty to see the daisies and California poppies against the desert plants.

It’s still too cold for me to enjoy high country hiking, but this is the perfect time of year to hit the in-town trails.

Denisse, Evon and I met at Chaparral Park in Scottsdale for a nice walk and a picnic lunch.  Denisse brought her famous broccoli salad and I made a yummy grain salad I’ll share on the next post.

Prayers Up

I hope it’s okay to post this (and if not, I ask forgiveness) but DF Julie will be undergoing a big knee surgery soon.  She’s way too young and active for such nonsense, and I’m praying for a successful surgery and easy recovery so she can get her life back.

In Memoriam

DF Chris took over her mom’s cat Mia after her mom passed away.  Mia became a beloved member of her family and sadly, passed away last week.

God bless all of you who take such good care of His creatures.  I get watery thinking about it.

What I’m Eating

If you’re interested in supporting a family-owned farm that ethically raises animals and provides great customer service, I can tell you I have been purchasing from Seven Sons and am really happy with their meat box.

I am not an affiliate, and you can learn more here, but our experience has been good.

DF Cassandra shared that she made the energy balls but added mashed bananas to hers.  I can only imagine how delicious and moist those must have turned out!

What I’m Reading

On audio I completed a Charles Portis – Masters of Atlantis.  It’s not the wonderful book True Grit, but it’s a madcap, dry humor adventure of dreamers who create a secret society and believe in themselves.  No matter what the rest of the world thinks.

In print I read Gwendy’s Button Box by Richard Chizmar and Stephen King.  It was a very short novel and the first in a series.  It is supernatural but not scary.  It was fun and easy to read.

I picked up the latest John Irving whom I’ve always loved, but I’m having a hard time getting into it.  I’ll let you know.

Wrap Up

We still don’t have any projects nailed down for 2024.  Are you doing anything around your house or yard this year?

Thanks for including me in your day!

  1. I enjoy your posts so much, Corine =). AND I got another shout out, yippee! Thanks for posting about Eva Carabello, too. I’m looking forward to attending this and seeing you there.

  2. Corine, you made me cry by posting that beautiful tribute to Mia. She was a sweet cat, we enjoyed having her and caring for her. We grew very close to her. We really miss her. 🙏😢💔
