Gardening Nature Reading

April 2024 Potpourri

A little of this and that for the April 2024 potpourri.

Outdoor Living

I spend as much time outdoors as I can.  The weather we have now is the reason we live in Arizona.  Perfect.

Even in retirement, our days feel so busy.  So taking a Friday morning to enjoy a bike ride and a cup oā€™ joe in the park felt like heaven.

The park is beautiful because all the leaves have returned and all the happy people are out exercising and walking their dogs.

Herb Garden

Remember when I planted herb seeds?Ā  I think it was a bit too early in the season.Ā  Plus weā€™ve had a very cool spring.

The herbs are just now coming up and I hope they have time to get big enough to use before the heat hits them.

Herb seeds are SO tiny.  I think they sort of got away from me as I was putting them in rows.  The basil is everywhere and the oregano is in with the chives.

I certainly hope they are compatible since they are living in such close quarters.

The lettuce has done pretty well and itā€™s so delicious compared to store bought.  I planted another round to see if I can get a late season harvest.

The mint is doing really well after almost dying off last year.

Come on over for a mojito, why don’t you?

What Iā€™m Reading

Plane rides and down time means I got some serious reading done.

On audio I listened to What I Talk About When I Talk About Running by Haruki Murakami.Ā  I have never read anything by Mr. Murakami. I found this version because is it narrated by the great and wonderful Ray Porter.Ā  It might sound boring if youā€™re not a runner, but it is so good.Ā  Iā€™m going to check into some of his fictional works now.

The Fourth Rule by Jeff Lindsay is #4 in the Riley Wolf series.Ā  As much as I love this series, this book didnā€™t pick up any steam until the last third.Ā  Iā€™m going to give it a recommend if youā€™ve read any of the previous.

Next up on audio was The Terror by Dan Simmons.Ā  One of my sisters read and liked this book and the other sister saw the mini-series and liked it.Ā  Okay.Ā  Not to be a party pooper, but this puppy is 30 hours long.Ā  I gave up after 19 hours.Ā  My knees just arenā€™t good enough to walk to that long of a book.

A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore is my current book.  I am loving it.  So funny and original and very dark.  So far the only complaint is the visit the characters take to Sedona.  Mr. Moore has that wrong.  He must be confusing Sedona with Gilbert.

Wayward by Blake Crouch is #2 in Wayward Pine series.  #1, Pines, was so good and for some reason it fell off my radar to polish off this trilogy.  Highly recommend Blake Crouch!

Wrap Up

Thank you for your sweet birthday wishes.  It was fun celebrating in Hawaii, but getting all your love is where the true blessing in my life lay.

Until next week, God bless you and yours and a wonderful weekend!
