New Kitchen Appliances

Just in case you want to plan your holiday for next year, consider getting new (and expensive) kitchen appliances.

Yes, we finally replaced the stainless monster and while we were at it, we ordered a new cooktop too.  

Now every appliance in our old kitchen has been replaced – at least one time.  Our dishwasher and garbage disposal maybe more than that.

Dear friend Connie commented they replaced their fridge last year and bought from Spencer’s.  We have always used Spencer’s and that’s where we got ours too.

The fridge I wanted wouldn’t be available until after New Year’s, so we opted for one with the ice/water dispenser in the door.  Just one more thing to break down in my opinion, but we were really sick of fearing the worst each day, so we went with it.

Of course, it was on backorder, so they brought the stove top first and installed it.  Which we didn’t even need.  Then they came the next week and installed the new fridge.

What a mess. The Saturday before Christmas!

The look in the kitchen is pretty similar, but it really is nice having appliances that aren’t going to ruin your floor or don’t have 25 years’ worth of chips and dings on them.

Do you spy that Dutch oven on the stove?  It was simmering some red pepper soup which I paired with the tiny bit of leaf lettuce from our winter garden in a salad.  You know I ate that with a ciabatta roll.  Perfect winter dinner!

Winter Desert

We are reaching pretty cold temps but we are trying to get out every day and enjoy some fresh air and sunshine.

I think I’ve shared this rose bush before, but it’s right outside the club and the roses smell so nice.  Ummm, like roses.  It’s so rare for roses to have any fragrance, but these do.

I really do “stop and smell the roses.”  And it is worth it.

I stopped by our local library and picked up two free passes for the Desert Botanical Gardens.  The workers were busy dismantling their Christmas decorations, but everything looked so pretty.  The views of Papago are the desert at its finest.

Although many trees at our park are losing their leaves right now, the waterfall is still pretty with blossoming bougainvillea. 

By the time the trees lose all their leaves, the weather starts warming and the days get longer and poof!  New leaves are budding. 

Have I ever mentioned how much I love short winters?

Wrap Up

I must say, this is the least satisfying purchase I’ve made since we had to replace our toilet. Ugh. We knew the day was coming and it’s good to have it over with, but there really is no joy in these new appliances.

On another note. Plans for the new year still have not entered my project book.  Right now I’m just enjoying spending time with friends when I can and books when I’m alone.

Sooner or later the resolution bug will bite, but for now, I’m content being lazy.
