Pull Up a Chair: What I’ve Been Up To Lately

If you want to pull up a chair, pour a cup o’ somethin’, we can have a little chat about what’s been going on lately in our world.

I’d love to hear from you and see if you have anything more exciting going on in your world as well.

But in the meantime, here we go.

What I’m Reading

Harlan Coben, Home

The Myron and Win series is always great fun, with just enough violence to keep things interesting.

Stephen Fry, The Insider

Similar to Fry’s other Wall Street thrillers, this is an older book, but it has definitely stood the test of time.

Lily King, narrated by Rebecca Lowman, Heart the Lover

Totally out of my wheelhouse, but if you’re in the mood for a romantic heartbreaker, this might be the book for you.

Peng Shepherd, narrated by Emily Woo Zeller, The Cartographers

A lot of reviews on Goodreads were disappointed by this one, but if you like a little sci-fi mixed in with your science, I thought it made for a good audiobook.

Kathryn Stockett, narrated by Jenna Lamia, The Calamity Club

Oh, yeah. This is a good one.

Get it on audio. You won’t be disappointed with the excellent narration.

Dean Koontz, narrated by Richard Ferrone, The Good Guy

Like a lot of Koontz books these days, easy come, easy go. I remember listening to it and somewhat enjoying it, but I have no idea what it was about just a few weeks later.

Which probably tells you everything you need to know.

What I’m Eating

There is nothing like opening a fresh bottle of pepperoncini peppers to get the literal juices flowing—and the creative What shall I make? juices flowing, too.

Not terribly original, but I made a giant Greek salad and topped it with plenty of peppers, a bit of feta and, of course, a side of warmed-up pita.

My favorite tart cherry seltzer mocktail made the meal feel special.

Because in this house, that make it a fancy meal!

I also saw this homemade snickerdoodle recipe and modified it with gluten-free all-purpose flour for Hubby.

We’ll see if he eats them.

So far, he is still a fan of the homemade oatmeal I shared here, so I’m feeling pretty good about my chances.

What I’m Doing

We took a day trip to Globe, Arizona, and visited the Besh Ba Gowah Archaeological Park and Museum.

What a delightful surprise.

The indoor/outdoor museum is educational without being over-the-top stuffy. The outdoor ruins are in beautiful condition, and my imagination just ran wild with what life must have been like for the early inhabitants of our state.

The museum also has a native garden, along with seeds for those who want to give a few things a try.

Naturally, I picked up a package of tepary beans.

And just a few days later, they sprouted.

I’ve already added a little trellis, and now I have some blossoms promising a bean or two in the future.

Just for fun.

Because apparently I’m now growing beans.

Anthem Health & Wellness Club

Deb’s next meeting is at noon, Wednesday, October 28th at the Anthem Civic Center. The speaker is Eric Poole, DC speaking about Unlocking Longevity.

As always, the meeting is no charge, but reservations here are appreciated.

Home Project

Not so sexy, we found out that our water softener and reverse osmosis system needed replacing.

Cha-ching.

Let me just tell you, buying something from Serena & Lily is considerably more satisfying.

But I suppose having soft water and clean drinking water is important, too.

Probably.

So that’s what’s been happening around here lately.

A little reading. A little eating. A little Arizona exploring. A little gardening.

And a whole lot of spending money on things I never knew needed replacing.

How about you?

What are you reading, eating, doing or working on these days? I’d love to hear what’s going on in your world.

And as always, whispering a little prayer for you and yours.
