Walmart Bedding Honest Review (and a Couple Other Finds)

A warm, wintery look in my bedroom is always on tap after our long Arizona summers.  But since we don’t have that long of a winter season, I really don’t want to make a huge dollar investment and then feel saddled to expensive bedding for the next ten years.

Bedding that will look nice all winter and won’t scream “Christmas” is also important to me.

This year, I went out on a limb and purchased a green velvet comforter set from Walmart.  Here is my honest review of the bedding along with a couple other recent Walmart purchases.

One of my favorite social media accounts is My Texas House.   I love Erin’s French Country contemporary style.  She now has a line of home dĂ©cor at Walmart and for $60 I took the plunge on a winter look with My Texas House Quinn Green Pick Stitch Stripe Velvet 3-Piece Quilt Set.

And yes.  You heard that right.  A king bedding set for $60.  To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much in the quality department.

But.  Calling it pleasantly surprised is an understatement.  It is beautiful.  The material is heavy.  The pick stitching is a fantastic touch that keeps it from looking drab.  It comes with two shams and is machine washable.  What more could you ask for?

The color is rich and warm.  Green is always sort of iffy in my book, but this is a perfect jewel tone. Highly recommend!

Euro Shams

To further break up the solid green look, I added white Euro shams and a white matelassĂ©  bedspread to the foot of the bed.

I found these pintuck pleat shams at Walmart for $7 each.  Yep.  That’s it.  They are a thin microfiber fabric, but just what I needed for the look.

Washable Rug

Like all my biscuit posts, you might be a bit tired of my constant search for the perfect kitchen runner.  The white ones look so pretty, but last about a week before they need to be hosed off and replaced.

The gray one from Ruggables is pretty, but the color is a bit off in there.  Of course, ordering online is always risky in the color department.  And those rugs aren’t the cheapest.

But.  Did you know Walmart has a line of designer washable rugs?  Me neither!  But now I do.  The line I purchased from is Nicole Curtis.  She’s the little blond dynamo that remodels homes in Minnesota on one of the DIY TV shows.

For $30 I got the Nicole Curtis Machine Washable Vintage Boho Brick Area Rug.  Different from Ruggables, it doesn’t have the bottom liner.  So it’s sort of like a heavy piece of fabric rather than an actual rug.

It’s a very rich color and looks really pretty in the kitchen.  It slips like crazy and we almost met our maker more than once.  Hub put a small piece of Velcro at either end to anchor it and that helped a lot.

I have washed it in the washer once since we got it.  It goes in cold water, line dry.  It shrank.  Not a lot, but it’s shorter now and barely covers the two Velcro patches.  The color stayed vibrant.

My honest review is that the quality might not hold up for long, but it’s quite pretty and for the money seems to be worth it.

Comparing it to the rugs I purchased for the guest room and bath from Wayfair, I would say the quality is really worth it.  Those rugs aren’t washable, but don’t look like they would really hold up in a kitchen either.

I’m looking into options to replace our pricey Pottery Barn rugs in the bathroom now.  I haven’t found anything in that line that is the exact size we need.

Cammo Sweatshirt

Just a little cammo is cute, right?  I don’t want to look like a hunter or something.  Nor do I want to be shot by one because they can’t see me in cammo.  But it’s a thing, right?

I saw a review on this cute crew neck sweatshirt for under $10 and I couldn’t resist.  And.  It’s my fav of the season.  It’s not that snuggly warm fleece that I want to curl up in at night, but it’s perfect for a light, long sleeve covering on cool mornings.  And the cute factor is off the charts.

That is Teddy who I walk as a volunteer. Teddy is not a cat. But I love him anyway. He is much cuter in the picture than my shirt. Which you can’t actually see very well. But you get the idea.

Wrap Up

The holiday season is officially here and there is no way to deny it.  I hope your Thanksgiving kicked off everything nicely and you have wonderful plans for the season.  Blessings on your week.

  1. I finally bought camo pants a few months ago from Nordstrom Rack and I love to wear them. Almost every color goes with them for a top and I feel a little younger. 😉
