January 2024 Reset

New Year’s Resolutions are not my thing.  But a reset?  Every once in a while a reset is a good idea.  And to be honest, I still have a way to go, but here is my January 2024 reset so far.

Undecorating Christmas

It takes me a very short time to get Christmas taken down and put away.  Especially since I’m doing less now. I’m very motivated when it come to undecorating Christmas.

Now cleaning.  Well, that’s another thing.  It takes me a full day to get all the sparkles vacuumed up and all the dusty surfaces wiped down.

Redecorating

And then.  I like to put things back together in a different configuration.  I get tired of my same ol’ stuff.  I’ve heard it referred to as “the itch to switch.”  Yep, that is the itch I get.

I need something cheerful enough to get me to spring.  A little color. Oh, and did I mention it should be free?  Or at least cheap.

As in I need to repurpose what I have.

Except for the pretty Studio McGee abstract I showed you from Target.  That was my one décor purchase for the season.

You can see in this picture the weather finally got warm and sunny enough to open the front door and fill my home with fresh air.  Ahhhh, heaven!

Organizing

There is always room for organizing improvement in my home, but I didn’t have big plans.  Until I heard about these clear organizing bins that come in four different sizes and have silicon feet so they don’t slip around in the drawer.

Yes, please, I needed those.  So I bought two sets.  I spent a lot of Sunday cleaning out kitchen and vanity drawers and giving them a little January reset.

Some people love reorganizing spaces.  As in love it.  Me?  It’s painful.  Like getting waxed or something.

Seeing how grimy my drawers are and digging out the vacuum and cleaning stuff and then getting the floors all dirty.  I just hate it.

And then when I’m done?  Nobody can even tell anything is changed.  Not much bang for the buck, but it’s done and if you come over to visit I’m going to let you look in my drawers.

Oh, okay, I’ll let you look right now!

What I’m Reading

This heading might be more like what I’m NOT reading.  I had two DNF (which in Goodreads lingo is “did not finish.”)  I won’t bother to talk about those.

On audio I listened to Only the Dead by Jack Carr – the latest James Reese saga.  Ray Porter, you are the narrator of my dreams.  And this is the best of the Terminal List series yet.

Also on audio was The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese.  Verghese is the author of Cutting for Stone which I loved, but this one I loved more!  Best book I’ve read in a year.  Not just this year.  So good.

My sister Monique recommended The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood since I’m such a fan of the Thursday Murder Club series.  It was cute but not as good as the Thursday series.

Wrap Up

I really am going to share some recipes I’ve tried but I’m out of room here.  Thank you for spending some of 2024 with me.

Let me know if there are any subjects you’d like to see covered.

Many blessings on a wonderful week and if you’re impacted by any of the crazy weather, I hope you stay warm and cozy.

  1. I love the reset. I want to redo the house, but that costs too much so I am attacking “stuff”. It is amazing how you can gain big piles of little discards! I read somewhere, 15 minutes a day and someday the job will be done! Let’s hope so. Today cd’s, and where would I play those these days??? Gone! Oh the treasures we find!

  2. Wow it’s looks so spacious and inviting. Love your black dining table. I also redid some makeup drawers but they dont look as good as yours. That’s okay, a little easier to find the right makeup brushes etc, when I wear it, which is less and less.
