Does the purge never end? How can we possibly make so many donation trips to the thrift shop and still have more?
Well, today I’m sharing another organization project – our guest room closet.
Remember I shared my excitement over my sister visit and our Murphy bed project? That is only part of my excitment.
We have dear friends arriving next week and I want the guest room to be just perfect for them.
Don’t you think guests who travel to Phoenix in August deserve the best? So do I!
Before State
The before state of the closet wasn’t all that bad.

Any guest would be able to find room to hang their clothes and stow their suitcases.
But there were some things on the floor (extra wooden floor planks, giant paint can, etc.) that really needed a new permanent home.
The top shelf stored items better suited to the garage, so we needed to make room on a shelf there.
And! I had an entirely empty cabinet in the laundry room!

Scope Creep
As a former project manager, I am all too well familiar with project scope creep. You know, when you set out to do one thing and then it somehow leads to another and then another?
When you’re working with budgets and timelines, that can be very undesirable. However, when you’re working with your own blood, sweat and tears, I find it happens every single day.
So how did the guest closet creep away from me?
Well, the laundry cabinets got straightened out, cleaned and then that cabinet got utilized.
And then? Oddly. It moved into my bedroom closet. Why?
Because some of my shelves housed home décor items like candles and knickknacks. That all ended up on the bar until it could be rehomed in better suited places.

I found a lot of things that were ready to be rehomed out of our house and into the thrift shop.
Those shelves now needed a good wipe down. And some of my shelves are really high. I used my handy dandy microfiber duster attachment on a telescoping pole and got everything tidied up.

And I decided to convert all my hangers to the slim velvet hangers like Evon used in her closet.
Luckily, most of my clothes were already on those hangers so I didn’t have to rehang everything.
Here is what that looks like now.

Do you spy an adorable new lemon print dress? There is a story about that coming up soon.
Oh, and don’t look at the purse section. I haven’t tidied that yet.
After State
I used my entire morning to tackle one small closet. Oh, and address the project scope creep.
There were three step ladders out moving from place to place because everything in our house is so dang high (and I’m so dang low).
My buns got a good workout!
The closet is now completely ready for all future guests.

Wrap Up
Thank you for helping to keep me motivated to live a more simple life with a home that is easy to care for.
I know many of you are tackling new home projects or big remodels, and I love it when you share.
Here’s to a wonderful weekend and see you next week.
