Early Summer Activities

Memorial Day weekend was wonderful around here and was the perfect kick off to summer and all the activities that are already started.

Yep, summer is hot around here.  But I love it anyway and we are having so much fun.  I’m going to share some of the early summer activities we are doing around here.

Concert in the Park

Our town of Anthem hosts Music in May concerts every Friday in May and we attend when we can.  Surprise to me, a friend mentioned there was a Queen tribute band playing Friday in our park.  We didn’t have tickets, but we walked to the park and sat in the grass and enjoyed the music of the iconic rock band.

Sitting outside the actual concert venue meant we could visit with local pups who were also enjoying the evening out.

You can tell by the smile on the face in the background that someone is in LOVE with this sweet girl, Carmel, who is in training to be a therapy dog.  She was the biggest love bug.

Among the food trucks, I saw this shave ice truck with eye-popping neon or LED or whatever signs.  Loved it.

Fitness

Being home this month means I can attend all my favorite gym classes and that makes me all kinds of happy.  Happy body, happy brain, happy spirit.

Remember I told you about beginning chair yoga with sweet Jenny?  I absolutely love the class and my body feels so different and so much better afterwards.  I wish I could take that class every day.

My beloved instructor Sollangy is teaching a new class, Functional Training.  It’s basically a weight class with lots of old people in it.  Seriously, I might be the youngest participant.  But, she is young and she doesn’t back down the exercise level.  I get a really good work out.  I’m still attending her barre class via Zoom when I can.

The pool is a perfect temperature to take water classes two evenings a week.  Since I’m a morning person, I will not lie.  It’s hard for me to leave the house for a 5:30 pm class, but once I’m there.  Ahh, heaven.  Especially that part in the hot tub after.

Adding these classes to a couple runs a week and lots of walking makes me feel I’m getting well-rounded workout.  I keep saying I want to ride my bike more and I’m committing to that this week.

What do you think about roller skating?  I admit I feel a bit too unsteady for rollerblading.  But I am seeing a lot of people on the old-fashioned four-wheel skates at the park and I’m dying to do it.  Do you think someone my age should be doing that?

Cornville and Sedona

Are you old enough to remember Pettycoat Junction?  It takes place in Hooterville (hmmmm, that was lost on me when I was four years old watching that) and when I hear Cornville, I always think of that show.

But.  No matter how bad the name Cornville sounds, they have some wineries that are worth spending a Sunday afternoon. Dancing Apache was our destination and we cannot wait to go back. Like tomorrow. And the next day.

There were several bachelorette parties there with the young ladies all dressed up and having such a good time.  Hmmm, still thinking about Hooterville.  Sorry, hope I don’t get kicked off social media.

Their pond, weeping willow and Adirondack chairs can keep me relaxed a long time.  The goats and donkeys needed a little love.  Everyone was friendly and enjoying their afternoon out.  Well, it helped they were mostly half-lit from wine as well.

Earlier, hub, DF Evon and I hiked in Sedona on a warm (okay, hot) crystal clear morning and then had our fav lunch at Oak Creek Brewery.  Which included a soft pretzel and beer cheese.  Which is not health food.

My goodness, how did I get time to clean the house and work at my job?  Enjoying life can be time consuming.

This year, more than ever, I am so grateful and am eating up these moments.  God bless you and yours this week.  XO
