August Costco Run

Now you might be thinking – is this blog running out of material?  An August Costco Run post?  Hmmm?

No, I really do think it is interesting that small households of two or even one person can enjoy and benefit from belonging to Costco.

Full disclosure – hub did the latest run.  When I join him, our bill is much higher.  He tends to stick to the list.

Here are a few of our recent purchases. Let me know if you use Costco and what you like.

Dairy

Isn’t it strange how milk goes bad quickly but cream or half and half has a really long shelf life?  That long shelf life means that even though I am the only one drinking half and half, the large half-gallon carton never expires before it gets used.

I’ve been known to add a bit of coffee to my cream.  Frothed with a sprinkle of cinnamon is a big morning treat for me.  I get such a kick from my frother and its one of my best Amazon purchases ever.

Another long-life item is the canned whipped cream.  Three bottles might seem excessive, but since they last a long time, they don’t go bad.  Adding a little to fresh fruit or a hot drink in winter really jazzes things up.

Hub likes the Kerrygold Irish Butter.  Don’t ask me why, I’m not an aficionado.

Not dairy, but in the dairy case, the cage-free eggs and egg whites are handy to have around and get used frequently.

Produce

The quality of fruit and veggies is pretty consistent, but sometimes the quantity is excessive.  When I purchase citrus, I share.

Berries, like the yummy strawberries, need to be cleaned and prepped right away so they are eaten as snacks and dessert.

These beauties were pretty ripe, but I added just a wee tad of sugar and it was perfect.

Meat

No disgusting meat pics, but really, the best bang for the meat buck is Costco.  Hub gets out his trusty sealer.  He divides in portions, seals, labels, freezes and we have a nice selection on hand.

Bread

Two loaves for less than the price of one at regular grocery stores is such a deal. Hub needs gluten-free and it’s not cheap. Every little bit helps, right?

Of course, I made him the world’s best chicken salad sandwich. With a side of the chips we buy in giant bags at Costco. Oh, and no, they don’t go stale. They are very dangerous.

Furniture

A couple years ago (or was it a couple of weeks ago?) we purchased new window coverings from Costco and were very happy.

It’s been several years now, but all of our patio furniture is Costco. It’s very heavy-duty and most of it is still available.

I’ll be the first to admit it’s not the most stylish, but I’m also not replacing it every year.  The big, thick cushions are also pretty comfy.

We have a new furniture addition in our home and I’m saving that surprise for next post.  Can’t wait to show you.

Pet Supplies

Cats are notoriously picky, so purchasing cat food in bulk is risky.  However, purchasing their treats and litter works out just fine.

And who can resist perching in those lovely boxes?

Wrap Up

Do you have big plans for the week?  We have a little trip coming up to see dear friends and I can’t wait to report back.

Heaps of blessings on you and yours and thank you for spending a little time with me.
