Route 66 – Arizona Style

We have been lucky enough to experience Route 66 activities in a number of different states. But this weekend? This weekend, we celebrated three 66th birthdays on Route 66 – Arizona style.

Dear friend Shira had a great idea that John, Gordon and I (who all turned 66 in April) should spend a day exploring some of the Route 66 attractions in Arizona. A few hours north of us.

A picture perfect spring day graced our trip as we started out in Seligman and wound our way on historic Route 66 ending in Kingman, Arizona.

We pulled off the road and took a group picture in front of this old truck and a Route 66 sign.

Seligman, AZ

Seligman is a dinky little tourist town with lots of souvenir shops. We were surprised that there were so many visitors there on an early spring day. Especially since it was Easter Sunday.

And most of the visitors were international. Wow, if it’s like that now, what will high season be like?

Cars and aliens seem to be a common theme.

There were a lot of picture opportunities for fans of the Cars movies.

Hackberrry, AZ

Next up was Hackberry, AZ. The General Store was more of the same souvenirs, but the bathrooms were spotlessly clean and cutely decorated.

We are now familiar with many Route 66 restrooms!

Shira snapped a pic of me pretending to use the old pay phone. Are you old enough to remember those?

Kingman, AZ

Kingman was our last stop where we enjoyed a late lunch at a funky retro diner.

The diner had a lot of conversations going on and most of it was not in English. It’s nice to see people out enjoying their lives.

There are so many adorable neon signs in the historic district. The heart sign is stunning.

There is a big Route 66 sign that allows cars to drive through for a pic opportunity. There were no fewer that 6 cars in line at all times.

We were so surprised at how busy it was. And again, mostly tourists from out of the country.

Wrap Up

Hub and I have explored so much of our beloved adopted state, but this was all new for us. We had a great time with great friends.

Thank you for spending time with me this week.

As always, God bless you and yours.
