Fall Home Reset

By no means am I doing anything like a traditional spring cleaning, but my home certainly needed a fall home reset!

Come along with me and see what I’ve been up to. And why!

Why? My sisters are coming! Next week! I know!

Remember how NASA used to count down, “T minus 7 and counting”? Something techy like that. Well, now in less than one week my sisters (and one brother in law) will be here.

And I’m counting down like NASA.

I cannot be more excited.

Truth be told I started prepping for the visit a long time ago because all rooms will be in use. There can be no hidey holes.

And I am at ace at utilizing hidey holes. So people think I am tidy. But pay no attention to that man behind the curtain!

And then? Oh, John had been stashing his treasure in closets I had no idea. I try to keep a peaceful house, but he wasn’t happy when his new golf travel bag needed to find a new home in the garage. But, as we used to say in the old days, “Tough!”

Closets/Pantry

The first thing I wanted to make sure is that the guest closets are as usable as possible since our visitors will be here for about 5 days.

The back bedroom’s closet has been my pantry overstock and butler’s pantry, storing little-used appliances and serve ware.

In order to get the back stock into our kitchen pantry, I needed to do a bit of tidying. Hmm. How does it get so messy?

It looks absolutely fine now and everything fits. With room to spare.

Why is this so hard to do? I don’t know. It doesn’t really take that long to fix it. But it isn’t all that enjoyable either. The results are satisfying.

There were also some extra cases of soft drinks so I restocked the bar beverage fridge. I have no idea how long it will stay this way!

Going through closets made me realize my bedroom closet could use a little attention too. It seems that after I get home from the pool or the gym, I stuff my bags on a shelf and forget it.

Guess how long it took me to put everything where it belongs and tidy this up? Maybe 60 seconds. Oh, and then I have half a shelf I can use for actual storage.

Drawers

And then I made the mistake of looking into my nightstand drawer. I swear I keep that thing tidy. But it looked otherwise.

Hub puts a little candy on my pillow at night and those had started to accumulate and needed a permanent place to live.

But. My pretty silver candy dish was tarnished. See how these tiny projects snowball?

The result is the dish is polished and filled with candy and the drawer is tidy and ready for me to quickly find what I need before bed.

The drawers and under sink cabinet in my bathroom have been giving me the stink eye for quite a while.

Yeah, they were bad. And I have no idea why, but it’s hard for me to throw away old makeup.

But that’s just what I did. Several tubes of lipstick, eye shadow and bronzer out.

My make up drawer looks like this now.

And another thing, I might have stocked up on a bit too much lotion and cream. I’d best get hydrating quickly!

Lots of old hair and nail product filled up my garbage can.

Under the sink I had to pull everything out and give it a good cleaning.

Our house is old and whoever lived here before us did not use liners so there are a lot of permanent stains. It’s kind of depressing to clean and still have a cabinet that looks dirty.

I did refresh the liner, cleaned out my cute little trash can and scrub out all my storage bins.

It doesn’t look great for pictures (or Pinterest!) but it’s clean and everything is fresh.

Wrap Up

Thank you for joining me on my latest project. I hope this gives you motivation to tackle some little spaces that might be getting under your skin.

Now, back to a cup of tea and a good book, what do you say?

Have a good weekend and let us know what you’re up to.
