Clothes Closet Refresh

A tiny little clothes closet refresh has been on my agenda for a couple weeks and I finally got to it.

Motivation was in short supply lately.  Maybe cooler, shorter days have something to do with it.  Maybe a full(ish) schedule is the problem.

I don’t know, but I tackled it and you’ll be surprised at the result!

New Hangers

For years I have used wooden hangers (splurge) for pants, clear notched plastic hangers for tops and dress and satin padded hangers for sweaters.

Then I decided I needed a purge in my closet and as I was clearing stuff out, I felt like the hangers were too much of a mishmash (is that the right word?).

Costco to the rescue with slim flocked hangers.

I tried to switch out to these hangers several years ago and they really didn’t work out.  One big reason was because they kept falling apart.

Hopefully this time, the quality is better and I’ll stick with them.

I love the uniform streamlined look.  And if you need space saving (I don’t actually) these hangers will be your friends.

Purge

I did a little purge in August and I ramped it up finding another pile of clothes that are no longer perfect for my life.

So my closet is really bare now.

I have a big opportunity to do some space utilization, but that’s for another day.

Clean the Floor

I removed all my clothes and placed everything on my bed.  This was the perfect opportunity to clean the floor in case any dust bunnies had escaped.  They had not.

But.  I discovered the cordless vac that was stationed in my closet no longer works.  At all.  So hub had to get on a ladder to remove everything.

Why do batteries have such a short life?!

I now have a plug available in my closet.  In case I want to plug in anything on the ceiling.  You never know.

Re-Hang

The wooden hangers are staying, but I went through all my pants (I hardly have any these days) and tidied up things.

The tops and dresses got new hangers.  The few sweaters on padded hangers remained.

The result?

A closet that is about 1/3 less crowded.  And very neat looking.

Certainly the hangers won’t stay in such perfect uniformity, but today?  Today, they look quite nice.

And it turns out? Organizing the closet is exhausting!

What kind of hangers do you use and do you like them?  What am I going to do with the thousand plastic hangers I no longer need?  Suggestions?

Weekend

We had a busy and FUN weekend.  The club had a 70s party and Evon, Barb, Stu, John and I attended.  Barb and Stu dressed up and had so much fun.

Cutest picture ever!

The DJ played some good 70s tunes and the ladies danced.  Isn’t dancing so good for the soul?

Saturday Evon and I attended a surprise birthday party for our friend Jenny hosted by her daughter.  Her daughter and grandkids had come from Seattle and put together a wonderful event in one of her friend’s gorgeous home/yard.

Another adorable picture!

And as a surprise to us – a thunderstorm.  Of course, not forecast.  Of course, my sunroof was open.  It became a great moment to wipe down the interior of my car.

I didn’t get permission to post either of these pictures, so I’m begging forgiveness now.

Sunday was a big ol’ snooze day.  Reading, a pot of chili and lots of couch time.

That’s it around here.  What’s going on in your world?

  1. I love the black hangers from Costco. I still hang my pants straight.. Donate your old hangers to a charity.
