Just for you, I’m going to put a very positive spin on our weekend—because it really was a good one.
Except for… well, you know. The 107° heat. In March. 😳 I guess that’s spring in Arizona.
I know people all over the U.S. are dealing with wild weather right now, some of it quite serious, so I’m counting my blessings and keeping those affected in my prayers.
This is my amazing Arizona spring weekend itinerary.
Red Rocks – Sedona
We made it a long weekend and headed up the hill to Sedona for some relief from the heat, a little hike, a hopeful hunt for spring flowers and lunch out at Mesa Grill situated at the airport.
When my sisters were in town, we tried (and failed) to get a table, so it felt like a win to walk right in this time.

Not only did I have one of the best breakfast burritos (for lunch) this side of the Rocky Mountains, but it was also so fun watching the small jets take off and land against those gorgeous red rock views.
Sedona is absolutely one of my favorite places on earth, and I never take for granted how lucky we are to have it so close.
And enjoying the desert spring flowers was icing on top!
Cool Cars
The Sonoran Charity Concours took place at our Anthem community park on Saturday. Unfortunately, the organizers couldn’t have predicted the extreme heat, so the event ended up happening during the hottest part of the day.
Still, our good friend Kevin had his unique Bricklin Sports Car on display, raising money for Phoenix Children’s Hospital, and we wanted to support him.

So hub and I laced up our shoes, walked over to the park, admired Kevin’s car, and spent some time strolling through the shaded areas.
A 1967 Dusk Rose Mustang absolutely stole my heart.
Flip 7 and Tacos – Casual Game Night
Barb and Stu introduced us to a new card game—Flip 7—and we are hooked.
We had our neighbor Gary over for tacos Saturday night and taught him how to play. We already play Rummikub regularly with Gary and Suzanne, but I have a feeling Flip 7 might be joining the rotation.
Blue Skies – Blue Angels / Luke Days
Luke Air Force Base hosts an annual air show, “Luke Days,” and John loves getting up close to the planes.
John… and about 100,000 other people.
Given the heat, EMTs were busy helping hundreds of people throughout the day, so we kept things simple—parking in a nearby field, waiting for the Blue Angels demonstration, and heading home afterward.

They flew for about an hour, performing incredible aerial maneuvers. We had a great view—minus a few electrical lines (sorry about that!).
I only wish you could hear those engines when they really let them rip.
On the side of the road, we ended up behind the sweetest blond mom with her four kids. She kept lifting them up onto the back of the truck so they could see.
I joked, “How many do you have in there?” and we ended up chatting for a bit. I couldn’t help but worry about those little ones in the heat, but they didn’t stay long.
I did manage to snap a quick photo of the crew before they headed out—and it was such a sweet little moment.

Wrap Up
All in all, it was a full and very fun spring weekend—even if it felt more like July.
I’m hoping the weather cools down a bit this week and continues to improve for those dealing with flooding, tornadoes, and melting snow.
I even managed to sneak in a tiny bit of spring cleaning—but that’s a story for another day.
Sometimes the simplest weekends end up being the ones you remember most.
Sending blessings for a wonderful week ahead. 💛
