April 2025 Potpourri

Can you believe it?  I am actually typing APRIL 2025.  Wasn’t it just Thanksgiving?  Yep, I knew you’d agree.

Time to catch up on a bit of this and that for a cup o’ tea and some potpourri.

What I’m Eating

This is super boring in our house lately.  I’m trying to get to a keto diet but I’m kicking and screaming.  I shared my Mexican Beef Bowl and that worked out well.  You might notice it has tons of starch in it, but nothing inflammatory.  I know, boring.

Losing sugar was the big hurdle, but I’ve found a touch of maple syrup is okay on my program, so I’ve been adding it to a bit of hot tea in the morning.  I never considered it before because I’m not that big of a fan of maple, but you cannot taste the maple at all.

Win!

Did I tell you I got the gorgeous Drew Barrymore tea kettle from Walmart?  Hub got me an expensive kettle from Costco and it didn’t last long and I didn’t really like it.  I keep seeing the beautiful colors of the Walmart appliances and decided this would be pretty in my kitchen.

And.  It turns out I like it much better than the old one.  The matte white finish is a bit hard to keep clean when you make and drink hot tea and iced tea all day long.  But that is a small price to pay.

What I’m Reading

Well, I have a bit of catching up to do here!  A new author for me, Brett Battles, wrote No Return.  While I did finish it and it was okay, I’m not necessarily recommending it, but I will read more of his works, particularly one of his popular series and see where that goes.

My sister Monique suggested Adrift by Lisa Brideau.  I liked the futuristic setting and the mind wipe plot, but it sort of left me adrift.

The Family Fang by Kevin Wilson was crazy and fun, but not nearly as good as his Nothing to See Here.

On audio I listened to a long one, Diva by Daisy Goodwin.  The story of opera great Maria Callas and her long-time lover Aristotle Onassis felt like true history but compelling.  The real winner is narrator Lorelei King who nailed every accent and voice.  Bravo!

What I’m Buying

When I get an Amazon Prime membership, I buy like a drunken sailor (no offense if you’re one of those).  So I literally go months without getting a thing and then I get sucked in again.

I took advantage of a low(er) cost temp membership and ordered some of the spring sale items.

So far my favorite is this Georgia O’Keefe coffee table book.  I haven’t enjoyed her art in so long and I’m looking forward to getting lost in the book for a while.

Upcoming

If you’re a local, there is a benefit for a local charity, Anthem Cares Through Service, which includes a play with local folks.  The play is The Big Pickle and knowing the crazy cult following in our community, it should get a good turnout.

It turns out Joe, my microgreens supplier, is in the show and I can’t wait to catch a performance.

Wrap Up

Well.  Happy April fool’s day.  I am so happy spring has sprung most places and you might be out enjoying your patio like I am.

Let us know what you’re doing and enjoy your week ahead.

As always, God bless you and yours and thanks for being here.
