Aldi Haul for a Family of Two

We did our main grocery shopping this week at Aldi and I thought you might like to see what an Aldi haul for a family of two looks like and how much we spent.

I’ll also share the dupes I purchased (and didn’t need) and their costs.

Produce

The biggest share of our grocery shopping went to produce. The fruit looked so good, I just kept adding and adding more into my cart.

I bought a pineapple and a mango and a box of kiwi among my more standard choices. Even the Cuties looked good and I got a bag of those.

It seems as if fruit has been non-existent or so expensive, I haven’t had as much as I like this year.

Well, I’m in heaven with it now!

The downside of so much produce is that I have to plan meals around using it up before it spoils. Meal planning and prepping are not attributes among my super powers.

But I’ll do my best!

Meat

Hub usually buys meat in bulk from Costco, but I’ve been wanting to put a pot roast in the crockpot and we haven’t had one.

Let me just say, if you have the idea that Aldi is a discount retailer, that may not be accurate. Nothing I purchased was a whole lot cheaper than our usual grocery runs, and this meat was no exception.

I did use half of the roast for our dinner this week (plus leftovers) and it was good, so no complaints.

Hub likes Aldi’s deli turkey for lunch with a lettuce wrap so we picked that up. A premade Kevin’s meal will also work for a quick meal for him when he wants something quick to eat.

Frozen

We didn’t bring a cooler and Aldi is a good 30 minutes from our house, so we didn’t buy any frozen treats. Just a couple bags of corn and spinach for our freezer stash.

Beverages

You may remember I added a Soda Stream machine to my beverage station and love having sparkling water at my beck and call.

But I’m waiting for a new CO2 cartridge and am out of water. So I picked up a package of sparkling water.

And. Drum roll, please. A bottle of wine I didn’t need. Because! I read an article that Aldi’s Exclusive Collection chardonnay is really good.

As in gets a “Best Buy” recommendation from Wine Enthusiast with a rating of 92.

I haven’t downed the bottle yet, but I’ll let you know what I think about this $9 wine.

Snacks

It is a little embarrassing showing junk food on my blog. However, I will say my vice is the bag of chips. Everything else hub put in the shopping cart.

Dupes

The real reason we trekked to Aldi on a Wednesday morning was to check the Aisle of Shame. The official name of the aisle is “Aldi Finds.”

Why the moniker of “Shame”? Apparently shoppers report shame when they return home with more than just groceries, having indulged in impulse buys.

But the thrill of finding great deals keeps us all coming back for more! And the aisle is a darling of social media.

My nuggets this time included another jar of the Lacura night cream. I purchased one a month or so ago and I love it!

I spilled the tea I found on dupes on this post.

I have heard so much about the Awesome Pan ($17) which is a dupe for the Always Plan ($120). This is the first time I’ve seen them so I snagged one.

As this article explains, the pan isn’t an exact match because it’s cast aluminum not cast iron. Oh, well, it’s super cute and I know for our small batch cooking it will get used.

The stainless steel tumbler comes in two sizes, the larger a dupe for Stanley or Yeti. I found just this smaller 20 oz size and didn’t even know the price because there was only one and just on a random shelf. My stainless coffee cup is getting beat up and I was looking for a replacement.

Turns out this beauty was $7. My mug is no longer available from Nordstrom. Oh, and it was substantially more than $7.

The pic isn’t the greatest, but it has a handle and nicely fits under the Keurig.

Cost

So what was the damage? Well, when you consider we purchased meat, wine, tons of fresh produce and a couple “shame” items, I don’t think we did too badly.

Our total cost was $140.

Wrap Up

Thank you for shopping with me as we prepare to welcome June. I hope your summer has kicked off to a great start.

As always, may God bless you and yours and see you next week.
