Why I Keep Reaching for These Outdoor Glasses (and What I’d Add Next)

Last week Denisse and I popped into Pottery Barn at the Biltmore and, as usual, I found myself completely drawn in by their table displays. They just know how to make everything feel layered, thoughtful, and beautiful.

But what really made me pause this time wasn’t a full tablescape—it was the glassware.

I recently picked up a few outdoor pieces from Pottery Barn, including these pretty blue acrylic glasses, and I’ve been reaching for them almost daily. I spend a lot of time on our patio, and if I’m being honest, I don’t trust myself with anything fragile out there. Acrylic has become my go-to.

These check all the boxes: they hold a generous pour, feel sturdy in your hand, and—this matters more than you’d think—have a really comfortable rim. Nothing too thick or awkward. Just easy to use, which makes them feel a little more special than your average outdoor glass.

Mixing Indoor and Outdoor Tabletop

One thing I’ve started doing more of is mixing outdoor pieces with indoor entertaining—and it works better than you might expect.

The Monique Lhuillier line at Pottery Barn leans soft and romantic, perfect for hosting something like a girls’ night. But I’ve found that bringing in acrylic pieces—even for indoor gatherings—keeps things relaxed and easy.

I used a mix of outdoor dishes for Galentine’s this year (how was that already two months ago?), and it still felt pretty and put-together without being the least bit fussy.

There’s something about knowing everything is durable that lets everyone actually enjoy themselves—especially when people are moving between inside and out.

Why I Love Acrylic Glassware

“Plastic” dishes and glasses have come a long way and I have no hesitation using them when entertaining.

They are:

  • Durable
  • Lightweight
  • Entertaining-friendly
  • Still looks elevated

Coastal Tablescapes (and What I Noticed)

Pottery Barn is clearly leaning into coastal right now, and while that’s not exactly my everyday style (desert living and all), I can still appreciate how beautifully it’s done.

What stood out most to me wasn’t any one piece—it was the layering.

Clear glass mixed with soft blue tones. Dressier wine glasses paired with casual tumblers. Linen textures alongside natural elements.

Even in a neutral palette, nothing felt flat.

This Driftwood Garland especially caught my eye. It adds that organic, slightly imperfect element that keeps everything from feeling too styled. If I had access to driftwood, I’d absolutely try a DIY version.

What I’d Add Next

As much as I love my current mix, I’ve started thinking about what I’d add (or eventually replace).

For years, I’ve loved my Pioneer Woman goblets—truly. But after countless trips through the dishwasher, they’re starting to show it.

Right now, I’m drawn to something a little simpler, like the Carson Goblets. They feel like a nice middle ground—elevated enough for entertaining, but still easy enough for everyday use.

Something you don’t have to think twice about reaching for.

A Quick Side Note

Denisse and I had actually planned to grab lunch at Seasons 52 that day… only to find it closed! They were literally moving furniture out when we got there.

So many good memories there—meeting friends, easy lunches, even a visit with Julie when she was in town. It’s always a little sad when a go-to spot disappears.

Wrapping Up

Pottery Barn may be moving toward summer entertaining already, but I feel like I’m somewhere in between—still enjoying spring, but definitely thinking about more time outside.

And if there’s one thing I know I’ll keep reaching for, it’s these glasses.

So tell me—are you still in spring mode, or already planning your summer tables?

As always, thank you so much for being here.
May God bless you and yours.
