The holiday countdown is well underway. And whether the craziness of the season has you in its grips or you’re more like me and having a chill Christmas, this is your reminder to give yourself a little love!
Here is what I’m doing to keep it chill without being Scroogish. Self-care means surviving and thriving!
Winter Workouts
It is easy to beat myself up this time of year giving in to the guilt that a little too much sugar or alcohol was consumed in celebrating.
But in fact, a guilt-free workout is achievable.
My rebounder actually gives me joy when I jump. And a nice walk when the sun comes out does wonders for my mood. Come on, Vitamin D!
And right before my thighs start talking to my heart, a bike ride can be very joy-evoking for me. Really! Sometimes I find myself riding and smiling. And then that darn hill comes up.
Cozy Routines
When did tea get so dang expensive? Good grief. To be considered one of life’s little pleasures, I don’t think a box of tea should cost over $10. But it does. And I’m still always on the lookout for something tasty and cozy.
This ginger tea has quite a zip to it.

This slower time of year also inspires to me grab a few puzzle books and, of course, a No. 2 pencil. I can pass a lot of time this way and I think it makes my brain kind of happy.
Stop and Enjoy
Just because I am lazy and don’t go in for over-the-top Christmas decoration, doesn’t mean that I don’t stop and enjoy what others are doing.
So many people put so much time and thought into beautiful, creative displays. One of my favorite things to do during the holidays is to stop and enjoy festive creations when I see them.
A few photos means I’m really taking time to appreciate what I see.

On our recent cruise, the staff displayed their works of art on our last sea day. Each restaurant area had a different gingerbread village.
Last year Denisse and I got such a kick out of visiting one in Scottsdale, and this year I equally enjoyed the ones on the cruise.

Home Spa Day
Even taking an extra minute to rub in foot cream before my gym socks go on makes me feel like I’m not just rushing through the steps on the day.
It may be a good time to revisit the nice sugar scrub recipe I made last year and treat dry skin.

Pray
Seeing nativity sets and images of baby Jesus reminds us that this might be a good time to take a minute out and pray.
Prayers of gratitude for what we have, prayers of healing for loved ones who need it, prayers of entreaty to show us how we can be of service.
Well, those are the things I’m praying for right now. Do you have anything on your prayer list?
Wrap Up
Gently remind yourself throughout this season not to over schedule and prioritize yourself.
I hope this is your best holiday season ever. May God richly bless you. And thank you for being here with me today.
