Spring Cleaning (Light)

Have you started your spring cleaning yet?  Do you intend to do it this year?  I think what I’m doing I consider spring cleaning light.

Meaning I am just dipping my toe in to see how the water is.

Do the baseboards really need attention?  They seem okay.

Do the transoms need cleaning?  Well, it would take a ladder to check.

See what I mean?

But a few things.  Yes, a few things could use some work and this is what I did.

I hope it gives you motivation for whatever your spring projects might be.

Bar Fridge

We kept hearing a clicking sound from the bar area and couldn’t pinpoint it.  We thought it might be some sound from the fridge.

And lo and behold, that puppy didn’t look real clean.

Hub took out all his pop cans and stowed them in his handy dandy Massimo cooler to keep chilled all day.

Then we loaded the little fridge onto the dolly (that think has been a life saver around here!), took it outside and defrosted it.

While he took care of the fridge outside, I took all the shelves and drawers inside and gave them a good bath.

The fridge slot wasn’t too bad, but I gave it a good scrub too.

We left the fridge out most of the day to completely dry out before lugging it back through the house.

It’s now fully restocked and squeaky clean.

Pantry

Honestly, that pantry could get juggled around every week.  Since we cook most meals at home, we use that area a lot.

And we are so exhausted from big trips to the grocery store that usually new groceries get stuffed any ol’ place.

It didn’t need a big clean out and purge since I did that not too long ago.  But I did get everything organized where it belongs and decanted dry goods into canisters which help to keep things much tidier.

I have never been a fan of decanting because I want to keep original packaging for expiration dates and cooking instructions.  But by now, we purchase the same things frequently enough I know it’s getting used up and I know how long it needs to cook.

Recycling Event

Each year our community hosts a “Go Green” event.  A number of different vendors set up in our park with semi-trucks to properly handle drug waste, electronics, paper shredding and furniture and clothes donations.

We haven’t taken advantage of the service in a few years and our garage had some stuff that really needed to go.

So we loaded up some big cardboard boxes that wouldn’t fit in our home bin, two laptops, a dead bike battery and LOADS of shredding.

It seems like paperwork gets stored and then never looked at again until it piles up and I’m like, “Why do I have stuff from 2019?”  The real question is “How did it become 2025 already?”

We waited in line for about an hour and a half.  A lot of people were taking advantage of the event which is nice to see.

A man in a car in front of us, got out of his car, approached us and offered us a cup of coffee if we would drop off his paint.  He literally tied to give us $3.  Ha.

Of course, we didn’t take his money but knew he shouldn’t wait in line so long for one can of paint, so we did the neighborly thing.

Rags Resale Fashion Show

In other news, my friend Leslie from Rags Resale is hosting a fashion show and shopping event Thursday, May 1st.  She wanted to make sure you know you’re all invited and the info is here.

Wrap Up

Thank you for not judging me on the tiny bit of spring cleaning I did this year.

The amount we did accomplish feels good.  There is always more to do, but, hey, it’s a start.

As always, God bless you and yours for a wonderful week ahead.
