Spring Weekend Update: Flowers, Music, and a Simple Spring Bar Refresh

Except for a little wind and a few chilly nights, spring in Arizona has been spectacular this year.

And it’s slowly popping up across the country too.

Amongst a little decorating at home, beautiful flower photos from Julie in Oregon, a patio brunch with live music at a local café, and a few stolen hours with my boyfriend Orphan X, it felt like the perfect simple spring weekend.

Spring Flowers

Julie sent photos of flowers just beginning to bloom in Oregon. I love how different this season looks depending on where you live. While we’re enjoying sunshine and lemons here in Arizona, she’s watching the first blossoms open after a long winter.

As much as I love my Arizona home, I do miss sweet bulbs and showy tree blossoms as the earth begins to warm!

Music on the Patio

Another highlight from the weekend was joining Barb and Stu for brunch at Janey’s café in Cave Creek where Mark Edward was playing live music. There’s something about hearing music on a sunny patio that always makes a Sunday morning feel special.

We’ve heard Mark play at several venues over the years. He’s incredibly talented and just as kind, which makes it even more enjoyable to hear him perform.

If you’re a local, check out his calendar and catch a concert if you can.

And I may have treated myself to prosecco 😉.  Double score.

What I’m Reading

The library contacted me on Friday to let me know my copy of the latest Orphan X book arrived.  Of course they let me know on Friday — the one day the library is closed.  I have waited a month and then I had to wait one more day!

First thing Saturday morning, I walked to the library and was overjoyed to see a line of people waiting for the doors to open. It makes me happy to see people enjoying the library as much as I do.

The few stolen moments I got to spend with Evan Smoak were not disappointing, but I don’t have a full book report for you yet.

Spring Bar Styling

Back at home, I spent a little time refreshing our bar area for spring. Nothing complicated — A few lemons, greenery, and a couple of crystal decanters were enough to make the whole space feel lighter.

My bar felt a little heavy and tired.  I wanted a spring refresh but wanted to avoid a trip to the store.  Or in my case, another online shopping cart filling up.

Sometimes the simplest spring home bar styling ideas come from using what you already have.

Bringing out my faux lemons year after year always bring so much cheer into my home.  Is there anything better than the color yellow?  I didn’t think so.

Hub rarely drinks at all and I only drink wine, but finding these beautiful crystal decanters at the thrift shop make the bar look “elevated.”  Right?

And even though the bar isn’t really the focus of our life, it’s right in the middle of our house and part of the living room so it needs to be attended to.

And frankly, it’s kind of a cozy place to gather when we just have a few friends over and want to enjoy conversation.

Wrap Up

Thank you for coming along as I celebrate spring.  It is forever the season I love best and enjoying it in the desert makes it even better.

As always, my God bless you richly and if you are in need of prayer, I lift you up now.
