October: The Month We Pretend Pumpkin Spice Counts as a Hobby

How is the cool weather making you feel? Full of fall sass? Me too!

So let’s get our sassy pants on and talk about October. After all, we are only a few mini candy bars away from the real holidays.

We are going to enjoy this month and let’s talk about what is going on.

Shopping

I’m still more in the purging mode than the shopping mode, but there are a few items that have been on my watch list.

Last post I mentioned I am on the lookout for a small air fryer for our mini family.

Which leads me to Amazon Prime Day which officially starts October 7th, but apparently the early deals are already available.

Walmart + members will get their deals starting October 6th. In the past I’ve found their deals mirror exactly Amazon’s.

Target Circle’s sale date beats them all, beginning October 5th.

So if you’re ready for holiday hosting, Christmas shopping, or just looking for restocks, buckle up. The sales are beginning!

We have not been to Sprouts in a long time, but we ran over this week and their pumpkins and gourds were displayed so cute.

I would have gotten a better picture, but it seems their sales were brisk because the baskets were low.

Anthem Health & Wellness Club

For locals, Deb’s October meeting is Thursday, October 16th.

Here is an excerpt from the announcement:

Join us for our next event on Thursday, October 16th with Guest Speaker Andrea O’Donnell, Certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner and Breathwork Facilitator.
We will learn:

  • How the breath can provide a window to calmness
  • How to activate your body’s rest-and-digest pathway (the vagus nerve) to switch from stress to calm
  • Experience several types of breathwork

As always, the event is no charge, but registration is appreciated.

What I’m Eating

Even though our weather is not quite fuzzy sock, cozy blanket yet, it is a good time to take advantage of seasonal produce.

Our local Anthem farmer’s market is now every Sunday morning and there are some actual vendors selling farm produce!

These were from Mortimer Farms. Beautiful, no?

Oh, and the cutest coffee truck ever!

I picked up a butternut squash and made my annual curried butternut squash soup.

I shared the recipe way back in 2021!

And, yes, I’ll be soaking that yellow turmeric off my containers for a couple weeks.

In other recipe news, I made a beautiful (if I do say so myself!) gluten-free German chocolate cake for hub.

He has been talking about wanting German chocolate cake for a few weeks so I surprised him with a new recipe.

It turned out so beautifully. We did use jarred frosting, because the homemade would have cost around $800.

Well.

It turns out he liked the looks better than the taste. He is always disappointed in gluten-free recipes. They taste ok, but just not quite the same.

I thought it was pretty good, but it could be all the coconut and pecans and sugar talking.

In any case, I’ll be trying the recipe again and hopefully trying different ingredients he will like better. The recipe has perfect five-star reviews and everyone who made it was so happy. I’m not giving up.

We cut up slices and froze them individually. It will all get eaten eventually!

Wrap Up

This post got a little long to add a book review, so that will be upcoming.

I do have two pumpkin spice recipes I’m trying out this week, so if you’re interested, stay tuned.

If you have yummy seasonal recipes you’ve tried and want to share, please do. We would love to hear them!

As always, God bless you and yours and thanks for being here.
