May 2025 Potpourri

It’s been a while since we talked about this and that. So let’s chat and call this my May 2025 potpourri post.

Thank you for joining me, listening to my chatter, giving me advice and taking a peek at my recommendations.

May Flowers

While many of you are enjoying springtime flowers, I am just sitting in envy. It’s hard to forget the sweet scents of peonies, lilacs and lilies. Or the vibrant shrubs like forsythia and azaleas and camellias.

We have had a beautiful batch of jasmine flanking our front door so I won’t complain too much.

But last week at Trader Joe’s I saw lilac and peony cuttings for sale. They buds had not opened yet, but for some reason grocery store flowers rarely smell nice.

So, long story short, while the beauty is partly for the eye, the nose equally enjoys!

Fitness Walk

Last Saturday, our club manager, the beautiful Amanda, hosted a fitness day walk. The sneaky sergeant made us do one-minute planks before we started. Hmmmpf!

In any case, a bunch of my besties and hub joined me. Shira is the best photographer for selfies and forwarded me this pic.

Concert in the Park

Attending Music in May concerts in our community park is one of our favorite activities. The weather has been perfect. It’s great to see neighbors and friends and members of the community out enjoying fresh air and a little music.

Last week they had the most adorable food trucks. We don’t buy stuff from the food trucks because we’re done eating by the time the festivities begin.

Rosie’s was my favorite to admire and adorable Rosie posed for a picture for me.

Homemade Granola

Am I the only one who has lost all desire to spend time in the kitchen? Uh huh, I thought so. I see you there, nodding along with me.

But sometimes, not long before bedtime, I get kinda hungry. Not for steak and potatoes or mac and cheese.

Just something light. Something not too gawdawfully unhealthy. The homemade European style granola I have been making with a tad of almond milk is just perfect.

This week I made a double batch to keep me going for a while. I store it in the freezer so it stays fresh for a long time.

From Costco I buy the gigantic bag of oats. They are really tasty.

When I bought storage canisters for the panty, I bought one set from Costco and another from Walmart. Hands down, the Walmart ones are best. In fact, I’ve not been disappointed with any Better Homes and Gardens purchase yet.

So I pour myself one container of oats for the pantry and leave the rest of the bag for back stock. So far it’s stayed fresh, but I’ve been known to store oats in the freezer too.

Amazon Kitchen Find

Just between you and me, I’ve been plenty disappointed with Amazon lately. I signed up for a short-term Prime membership. Almost nothing comes next day, pricing is not consistently the lowest and one item I ordered was cancelled after waiting a week for it to be shipped.

Ugh. But I did find this triangle drying rack for the corner of my sink.

It’s easy to move out of the way when I am doing dishes and it’s so nice to use it to completely dry out the sponge and cloth before the next kitchen marathon cleaning. Which is several times a day.

Mini Road Trip

Hub has been recovering from shoulder surgery. Between painful PT sessions and constraints of using his right arm, we really haven’t been doing a whole lot.

Which has been driving me a bit stir crazy. This week we were able to do a mini road trip. At Montezuma’s Well I visited my beloved Arizona Sycamores. It seems like May is a perfect month to see them all leafed out and fresh from spring moisture.

We ended the trip with early lunch in Sedona and then headed home the back way, making a nice loop.

Wrap Up

We are getting ready to get some projects done around here and we are in the throes of prepping even as I write this.

I can’t wait to share what’s going on. But fair warning, none of it is all that pretty.

So! What’s up for your weekend?

Thank you for being here and as always, may God bless you and yours.
