Today I’m sharing what I refer to as my “light cleaning” process. A 30-minute bathroom reset can be enough to make life feel easier—no deep cleaning, no perfection, just small steps that bring relief. This gentle reset is for anyone who feels overwhelmed but still wants a bathroom that feels calm, manageable, and lived in.
Have you seen the reports that the Japanese clean their bathrooms every morning? Well, if you have and if you have decided to follow that trend, bless you. And don’t judge me but I do not do that.
But if the bathroom needs a little attention—or if it just feels like enough days have gone by—I can get a lot done in a gentle 30 minutes.

And bonus, in 30 minutes I actually get TWO bathrooms reset!
Let’s go shall we?
Clear and Spray the Surfaces
→ Clear and Spray the Bathroom Surfaces
A 30-minute reset doesn’t leave time for any decluttering or reorganizing, but there is enough time to tidy the countertops and put products back where they belong.
Or in the case of hub’s vanity, I shove it all into his top drawer and he can figure it out later. See, I’m tricky like that when it comes to saving time.
Now that everything is as clear as it’s going to be it’s show time.
While I don’t love using harsh chemicals in the house, I do like for the ones I use to do theirs jobs.
So I squirt in the toilet bowl cleaner and then I use an all purpose cleaner to spray down the countertops and sinks. And let it all sit a minute or two before I brush, wipe and polish with my favorite microfiber cloths. Which are also great for wiping the cabinet doors.
When we did a little remodel on our bathroom, we didn’t remove the builder-grade mirrors what surround our bathroom. They are now very old and someday that will have to be addressed.
But in any case, I do not clean all these mirrors on reset day, just in front of the sinks, the medicine cabinet mirrors and my magnifier. Zip Zip. Spray, wipe and done.
Attack the Floors
→ A Quick Bathroom Floor Reset
It’s been quite a journey figuring out how to wash our washable mats in the washing machine. Because even though they are are supposed to be machine-friendly, it’s been a challenge.
When they are on the bulky mode they never quite spin enough water out. Other modes they walk the machine almost out of the laundry room. If I put them on the quick mode they get stuck at 6 minutes and will go forever.
Finally, I’ve found that I can put all three of our mats in a regular load and just leave them.
On a bright sunny day, I hang them in the backyard to dry.
Don’t you think sometimes fresh air and breathing are the real purpose of any reset?

After the mats are up and doing their thing in the washing machine, I use the steam mop (this is the model I use) and stick vac to give the floors a good clean and shine.

In the toilet room, I’ll go around the bowl and floor with a Clorox wipe and the residue from that comes up nicely with the steam mop.
Of course, I like to do all of this in my usual high style, so during this 30-minute reset, I wanted to share my new bow hat with you.
I know! Just in case you want one, they come in multiple colors and are CUTE. It’s a little big but I love it anyway.

And remember this is just maintenance, not scrubbing. A few minutes on the floor makes the whole room feel different.
The Shower
→ What I Skip During a Bathroom Reset
Ugh, it’s the big elephant in the room. Just being honest here, I do not attack that behemoth unless there is a really good reason to.
We wipe down the glass and tile walls after every shower and since we live in Arizona, the floor dries in a couple hours, so we don’t get any mold build up.
I do like to polish up the shiny surfaces so on towel day, I’ll wipe everything down with towels before they go into the laundry.
The shower is not really part of my gentle reset.
Powder Room
Don’t you just love the term “powder room.” Like you imagine time traveling to some reality where people went into a small bathroom and powdered?
Well, that room is small, but it gets a lot of use and if I know you’re coming ahead of time, I’ll make sure it gets an extra reset before you get here.
But I can easily get it squeezed in during the 30 minutes I take for the main bathroom, and TA DA it’s all done.
Eat a Snack
Even after a gentle reset, sometimes a little fuel is necessary.
For some easy protein with little prep, I’ve been loving cottage cheese stuffed peppers.

I will admit that after I took this pic, I covered these puppies in black pepper. Yum!
