DIY Project

Homemade Sugar Scrub

Inspired by an online recipe for the most beautiful peppermint sugar scrub for holiday gifting, I gave the project a whirl and came out with two homemade sugar scrubs.

This recipe couldn’t be easier and guess what?  You know me – it calls for ingredients I already have on hand.

Oh, except for the food coloring.  I know I HAD food coloring but I could not find it anywhere.  And it’s optional anyway.

The only food coloring I found at our local store is in gel form and it didn’t mix well so I’m actually going to return it.

So, one tiny speedbump, but this was a fun and easy project.

The two batches I made are peppermint and lavender. I plan to use the lavender scrub in the shower and I put a jar of the peppermint in the kitchen for use after doing the dishes.

This time of year is so drying and my hands are suffering.  This scrub makes them feel so smooth and soft.  Next shower I’ll be using the lavender on my arms and legs too.

You can use any essential oil you have on hand and that you would like to put on your skin.  I will say that the scrub is nicely scented, but it doesn’t last on my skin.  So I’m not walking around smelling like a candy cane.

Simple glass jars with scraps of ribbon made such a pretty presentation.

If you are careful not to get water into your mixture, a jar of this mixture could last several weeks.

Sensitive skin might require a patch test, but I used high-quality essential oil and hope to avoid any skin problems.

If you’re looking for a sweet homemade gift that won’t add to someone’s glucose numbers, this recipe might work for you too.

Here is what I did.

  • Place in small jars and tie with a pretty ribbon.

Wrap Up

Thank you for joining me. This last weekend before Christmas might be busy and stressful. And I know a lot of us have been fighting some bad bugs.

I pray over each of you and yours for good health, rest and relaxation. God bless.
