Homemade Fudgesicle-Inspired Ice Pops and Orange Creamsicles

Is it over 100 degrees where you are right now?  Yep, here too.

Is it just my crazy logic or do you believe, too, that we deserve a cold sweet extravagance for putting up with it?

Last year I shared the recipe for homemade strawberry lemonade popsicles and I’m up for the challenge of new frozen treats to make at home.  With real ingredients.  That I can pronounce.

Fudge Ice Pops

From Bon Appetit, I tried their fudgesicle recipe.  I had all the ingredients, but needed a second set of molds.  John had to make another trip to the store for that.  Dang.

The half and half comes to a boil and then the chocolate gets added.  Ummmm.  Standing over that for five minutes breathing that in was pure heaven.  I don’t even need to eat it.  I’m happy enough with smelling.

Just kidding. I’m not usually a spoon licker when I’m in the kitchen. But this time. Yeah, I might have had chocolate sauce all over my face before the pot was clean.

Let me just say here and now, these are THE best fudge bars I have ever eaten. And I’m sort an an expert. YES! Recommend.

Creamsicles

Next up on my quest for yummy homemade treats, I tried this super easy creamsicle recipe with ingredients I already have on hand.

Now, I am indulging with cream and half and half because I, in fact, rightly or wrongly, have that on hand.  But of note for those of you with dietary preferences, I found a lot of dairy free and lower-fat versions online.

But.  Not today at this house.  Today it’s full fat for me.

This recipe has only four ingredients and one of them is just two teaspoons of sugar.  I’m all about that.

There are no fancy appliances like a blender, mixer or ice cream maker for this either.  Just a spouted bowl and a spoon.  And popsicle molds of course.

There was enough mix for seven creamsicles but I only have a mold for six so I froze the last little bit in its own little bowl.  I’m not proud; I will dig with a spoon.

Honest Review

Well.  The orange creamsicle recipe is the oddest combination of delish and not.  Hub and I both agreed.  Odd.  Not enough orange flavor.  Plus, that was SO much more dairy than I could handle in one try.  My stomach was talking to me right out loud for hours.

Ok, maybe not a repeat.

The fudgsicle recipe is rich and scrumptious. It may be a little too chocolately for some palates, but for mine. Yummy perfection.
