Homemade Detox Pineapple Ginger Juice

Happy New Year!  Yes, it’s that time of year when everyone is on the healthy eating, gym attending, dry January bandwagon.

And while that’s not my schtick, I did mention last week that I’m in the process of shedding a few pounds.

Oh, and exercise is a bit challenging these days for my old knees.

Oh, and.  I could go on all day, but as I write this, I know you might be feeling the exact same way.

Like, “What do we do”?

This is what I do.  I feel sorry for myself.  I tell all my friends about my troubles (sorry!).  I pray.

And then.

I start digging!  I would say approximately 90% of the “remedies” I try are ineffective for me, but when they work I’m going to tell you about it.

I’ve heard from a few of you wanting to know how Chad’s eating plan is going.  (I’ll update later, but for now let me say I have never been so happy on a diet).

Then in my researching feed for beneficial foods, a miraculous weight-loss pineapple drink recipe came up.

I was intrigued.

Because do I think drinking sweet pineapple juice will help me lose weight?  No, I never believed that for a minute.  But….

The Upside

Pineapple is really good for you.  And if you want something to fight inflammation (I do!), aid your GI system (I do!) and boost immunity (I do!) this juice has two ingredients that will deliver.

Pineapple is supposed to be great for the joints and ginger great for the digestive system. Let’s go!

The Downside

Pineapple is really full of sugar (it’s so dang delicious), so this drink is to be enjoyed in strict moderation if you really want to lose weight.

And if you don’t want to lose weight and use this as a cocktail mixer, who I am to judge? I’ll bet it would be so good!

Ingredients

This recipe has four ingredients:

  • Pineapple (the whole thing except the beautiful crown)
  • 2 ½ cups of water
  • 2 knuckles of ginger
  • Juice of one lemon

What I Did

That’s it.  Hub bought me a gargantuan pineapple from Costco.  I scrubbed it really well, cut off the peeling and took out the hard center and cut in all into chunks.

Using a spoon to scrape off the peeling of ginger works quickly and easily.

I peeled two knuckles and grated them.

I added the pineapple skin and hard core and ginger to 2 ½ cups of water to simmer in a large pot for about 20 minutes.

That’s it.

Here’s the actual recipe if you want to make it yourself.

Homemade Detox Pineapple Ginger Juice

Delicious and healthy drink recipe to jump start your day
Course: Drinks
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 Pineapple
  • 2-3 Ginger knuckles, peeled and grated
  • cups Water
  • 1 Lemon, Juiced

Instructions

  • Wash and scrub the outside of the pineapple well.
  • Remove the crown of the pineapple and discard.
  • Cut the pineapple fruit into chunks and set aside.
  • Remove the peeling and hard inner core from the pineapple. Do not discard. Cut into chunks.
  • Peel and grate ginger.
  • Place pineapple peeling and core chunks and ginger into a pot with 2½ cups water. Let the pot come to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 20 minutes.
  • After the cooked pineapple has cooled, pour the water into a blender. Discard the cooked chunks.
  • Add the reserved pineapple chunks and blend well.
  • Pour the blended mixture through a sieve. I let it drain for about 5 minutes into a large bowl and then funneled into a mason jar.
  • Add the juice of one lemon.
  • Stir and enjoy!
  • This juice refrigerates well for about a week.

This recipe makes enough for about 4 days of a morning juice glassful.

After pouring into a mason jar I used these lids which have changed my life in the kitchen.  I know I keep recommending them, but if you don’t have them, you are missing out!

One glass in the morning on an empty stomach and I do think it satisfies hunger and gives me an extra boost of energy.

In any case, it is really good.

This homemade pineapple ginger detox juice is refreshing, naturally sweet, and made with simple ingredients to support digestion, reduce bloating, and feel lighter.

  1. Very similar to the flu bomb I make. Pineapple has so many benefits. Can’t wait to try this too.
