Awesome Audiobooks

I listen to a lot of audiobooks. As in a lot. If I’m exercising alone, taking a walk (like this beautiful walk at Montezuma’s Well), cleaning, driving, I’m likely listening to an audiobook.

And when I “read” an awesome one, I cannot help but share it.

Here are the awesome audiobooks that, no holds barred, I can fully recommend with five stars.

These books aren’t necessarily new, but they are books I’ve listened to within a year.

Many are the first of a series. Which usually means they are good enough that readers want more.

And a couple have TV series made from them.

In any case, here is a partial list of what I’ve listened to this year and think you might like too.

The Never Game

Author: Jeffery Deaver Narrator: Kaleo Griffith

This is the number 1 book in the Colter Shaw series. It is the inspiration for a TV series called Tracker.

Which I’ve never seen.

But which I’ve heard everyone loves!

Thrillers are always my go-to for listening pleasure and this one does not disappoint and is a departure from the beaten down gumshoe.

I’ve listened to this one and the 1.5 book. Number 2 is on my waiting list and I cannot wait to get it. Awesome!

I Cheerfully Refuse

Author: Leif Enger Narrator: David Aaron Baker

If you’ve read any of my previous reviews you know I am a big fan of David Aaron Baker’s narration. And this book is no exception.

I found this author and this book as a result of a search of Baker’s work.

This is a totally different kind of story for me, i.e., not a thriller. It’s a tale of heartbreak and adventure and soaring hope.

Oh, yes, put this on your list and let this crazy group of characters steal your heart. Awesome!

This Tender Land

Author: William Kent Kruger Narrator: Scott Brick

Let me say right up front that Scott Brick narrates my beloved Orphan X books, but this is nothing like those. Let me also say that William Kent Krueger writes the Cork O’Connor mysteries, but this is nothing like those.

This is one of those rare books that I have read and listened to. It’s so beautifully written.

If a book about orphans and the Great Depression and love and hate and murder are of interest to you, listen to this one. It is awesome!

Slow Horses

Author: Mick Herron Narrator: Gerard Doyle

As you can tell by the picture, this British brook is both the number 1 in a series and has also been made into a TV series.

I found the narration and the start of the book to be a bit slow (no pun intended), but I stuck with it for a bit and fell in love. It’s a motley crew of British spy rejects and so, so good. As in awesome!

The Eyes & the Impossible

Author: Dave Eggers Narrator: Ethan Hawke

I reviewed this book here and I’m still calling it a must listen to in order to feel good for a very long time. Yep, it’s awesome.

Wrap Up

All of these books were borrowed using the Libby app from my public library.

Please let us know if you’ve read (listened) any of these and agree or can add to what I’ve said here.

Or, if you have any recommendations, we’d love to hear that too.

Thank you for being here and as always God bless you and yours for a wonderful weekend.
