Amazon in the Kitchen

No, not an Amazon like the large warrior women. But you knew that. These are some of my go-to kitchen items I’ve found on Amazon and give them all a thumbs up.

Jar Lids

I shared my purchase of large and small plastic jar lids that fit on Ball, Mason, Kerr, etc. jars.

Since I’ve become more proficient in sourdough bread making, keeping my starter fed and used can be a messy job. Using a larger glass jar has been a perfect storage solution because it doesn’t take up much room in the fridge.

And using the plastic lid with the silicone gasket keeps everything nice and sealed.

Every time we use a jar, we now use one of these lids and they have turned out to be a great purchase.

Kitchen Scale

I’ve had an old-fashioned kitchen scale for years, but it is not accurate enough for baking. And again, trying to crank out consistent bread is much easier when the ingredients are weighed.

It is shocking how much money you can spend on a kitchen scale. If you’re a serious baker I suppose it is worth it. But for me,*gulp*, I’ll just take a basic model.

The Greater Goods Scale is $10 and it performs like a champ. I am really happy with this gizmo.

Potholders

I know this doesn’t seem to be a very sexy purchase, but finding the perfect potholder has been strangely elusive.

If they are too thick or too big, they won’t allow me to access the counter-top oven I use most of the time. Or they touch the hot coils and burn.

I found this set of three basic terrycloth potholders with a heat-resistant backing for less than $10 and they have worked out perfectly.

Since I’m such a messy baker, they get pretty dirty pretty quickly and they launder up nicely.

Also seen in this picture are the new replacement cooling racks I bought recently. I have lived with a horrible small peeling rack for years. Why, oh why, did I not spring seven bucks for these a long time ago?

They have made my life so much easier.

Silicone Mats

The set of two silicone baking mats I purchased a couple years ago fit my two large cookie sheets and I use them every time I bake.

They are much easier to use than parchment paper and I never have a sticking problem.

The only problem is that after washing, they can take a long time to dry and they are kind of floppy to leave in the dish rack to dry.

I layer them on the clean cookie sheets and let them dry in the oven as it cools from my baking project.

Wrap Up

My baking project on this morning was boxed gluten-free chocolate chip cookies. I had purchased Open Nature a while back and wanted to try it out for hub’s treat. It calls for a stick of butter, so what’s not to like, right?

Not sure if he cared for them but he ate three right off the cooling rack.

Do you have any tips or tricks you can share that make kitchen life easier?

Have a wonderful weekend and we’ll chat again next week.
