Homemade Bread

Today I’m sharing some successful homemade bread recipes. And the recommendations come from a highly skilled baker – my sister, Monique!

Although it took several months of experimentation, I have had pretty good luck baking my own sourdough bread. But the recipe I use is very simple and I in no way am a good baker, nor do I enjoy spending time in the kitchen.

But, store-bought bread is something I try to minimize, so I appreciate homemade bread recipes. And my sister is never afraid to tackle anything in the kitchen.

Bagels

Monique whipped up homemade bagels using the recipe from Sally’s Baking Addiction. Sally’s recipes are always successful for me because she keeps it simple.

The cornbread recipe I used from her site is the best and easiest I have ever tried.

Anyway, back to the bagels. Monique said, “Wow, bagels so good! Chewy! Best I’ve had since we left Boston.”

She said that Sally’s recipe is much easier than others she has tried. Bagels need to be shaped and boiled before baking, so quite a few steps.

She let the dough sit overnight in the fridge.

She used barley malt syrup which she felt was important and couldn’t comment on using honey.

Okay, do you see what I mean? Who has barley malt syrup? Monique loves the kitchen. If truth were known, she probably brewed that up herself!

Homemade Multigrain Bread

You might (correctly) guess that our family has a predisposition to loving our carbs. If you’re keto, you might be skipping this post.

But if you love yummy fresh bread like we do, keep on reading.

Monique’s latest creation is multigrain bread from Evolutions in Bread by Ken Forkish.

And if starting they day off with toast isn’t heaven enough? She used French Normandy sea salted butter and homemade strawberry jam!

Her jam recipe is from Blue Chair. She says the trick is to leave the berries macerating for 2-3 days in sugar and lemon juice. That is a technique from Mes Confitures.

I honestly don’t even understand what I just typed, but I inserted links in case you want to try it!

Wrap Up

Thank you for spending a little of your weekend with me. Please let us know if you’ve decided to bake your own breads these days.

We always love the inspiration and your recommendations.

As always, God bless you and yours.
