December 2024 Potpourri

Hello, my friends.  Potpourri is my chatty post catching you up on what we have been doing and providing recommendations on what I love.

And.  Maybe just letting you know about what I don’t love but what is necessary.  Like exercise. Or bad books.

What I’m Doing

Let me start this by saying that I am outside every possible second I can be because our weather is delightful rather than frightful.

But of course our days are short and darkness keeps me inside more than I’d like.

So I took a walk over the weekend to our local library and filled up my backpack with activities.  Here is what I got:

  • A movie.  The Three Musketeers – Part 1:  D’Artagnan.  Have I ever told you how much I love Dumas?  I have been a fan of those rascals all my life.  So I picked up this movie and guess what?  It’s French.  Spoken in French.  With English subtitles.  I didn’t mind reading the subtitles and realizing how few French words I know, but we quickly paused the movie and selected English.  The movie is okay, but it really is part 1 and ends with a cliff hanger.  Dang it.
  • Two holiday puzzles.  Hub started a beautiful winter puzzle on his puzzle table but the pieces were small and the colors too similar for my remedial skills.  I found two colorful holiday puzzles with only 500 pieces and already finished one (with a little assistance).
  • Two books.  On the seven-day new book shelf I found a new Dean Koontz and a new Lincoln and Childs.  I’ll be back soon with reviews on them.

This girl.  Got really wound up while I was doing the puzzle.  I could not get her to stop.  She even shattered a break-resistant ornament off my little tree.

When she finally took a nap I was so thankful.  It didn’t last long.

What I’m Reading

Audiobooks have been my go-to since I’ve been walking so much.  Flat Spin by David Freed is the #1 in a series featuring Cordell Logan.  I found it by searching on books narrated by Ray Porter.  Oh, my!  I am in love.  I will be reading all of Mr. Freed’s books.  And if Ray Porter is narrating, I’ll be listening.  Recommend!

Spook Street by Mick Herron is #4 in the Slow Horses series.  I sort of skipped over a couple and will need to go back.  I am so addicted to these now.  I will be walking along and the antics of Jackson Lamb will have me laughing out loud.  All by myself.  Start reading these in order if you’re interested.  The first one starts a little slow (and it’s called Slow Horses) but stick with it.  They are worth it.  Recommend!

I started three others.  Two I added to my DNF (did not finish) pile.  They were too violent for even me.  And the third I’m going to pick back up a bit later and will for sure review.

What I’m Eating

I ate out three times last week.  So you know I’m paying the piper this week.  No new recipes, but I did make up a batch of homemade breakfast bowls for hub and he is so happy.  And I’m so happy he’s not eating processed foods.

Shopping

Thank you for your sweet comments on last week’s shopping post.  It was such a fun day!  In other shopping news, my friend Leslie has an upscale online shop, Rags Resale.  For locals, she’ll bring clothes to you for try-on.  Otherwise, check out her site for a lot of great finds.

I can 100% recommend her!

Wrap Up

We are a week away from Christmas and ready to wrap up the entire year.  Are you ready?  It seems like low-key holidays are best for us.  We enjoy putzing around and trying to keep to our normal routines.

But yet, we also want to enjoy time out with friends and are soaking that up too.

What is going on in your world for the holidays?  I send blessings to you and yours and am praying for health and happiness.
