I wasn’t quite ready to jump straight into pumpkins.
Living in the Arizona desert, we really don’t experience the crisp autumn weather so many parts of the country enjoy. By the time August rolls around, I’m craving a cozier home, but not necessarily pumpkins on every surface.
Instead, I wanted something organic, earthy, and understated—a table that felt like late summer gently easing into fall.
And…I wanted a few new pieces without spending a fortune.
To make sure I didn’t end up with a shopping cart full of things I’d regret, I called on my old friend ChatGPT (I call him Chad) for a little decorating advice.
Chad did not disappoint.
To be fair, Chad also talked me out of buying several things I didn’t need.😄
After lots of back-and-forth (and me sending him entirely too many pictures of my dining room), this is the look we created together.
A quick note: I’m not affiliated with any of these retailers, and none of the links in this post are sponsored. I’m simply sharing them because I know it’s frustrating to see something you like and not be able to find it. If I can save you a little time, I’m happy to do it.

The Color Palette
Instead of traditional fall colors, we built everything around a simple palette:
🌿 Olive
🤍 Cream
✨ Brass
🪵 Walnut
It’s warm, cozy, and exactly what I was hoping for.
The Runner
I started by shopping my own home.
This textured runner is several years old from World Market, and I loved that it already had the cream and gray tones we wanted. Sometimes the best decorating purchase is the one you’ve already made.

The Placemats
Rather than buying expensive chargers, I pulled out these woven placemats from Amazon that I’ve owned for a couple of years.
They’ve held up beautifully and added just enough texture without competing with the runner.

The Dishes
Once again, my simple white World Market dinnerware came to the rescue.
Sometimes classic white dishes are the best investment because they work with absolutely everything.

The Napkins
Here’s where I added the season.
I purchased two sets of of Hearth & Hand olive green napkins from Target for $14.99 per set.
After washing and air drying them, I was pleasantly surprised. They’re relaxed and slightly rumpled—in the best possible way—and don’t even require ironing.
That’s definitely a decorating win in my book!

The Candleholders
To repeat the brass already found throughout my dining room, I ordered two sets of two brass ribbed candle holders from the Hearth & Hand with Magnolia collection.
I love that they feel vintage but still have a clean, updated look.
Even better, I already owned these real wax battery-operated taper candles from Amazon. I’ve mostly used them at Christmas over the past five years, but they were perfect for this table too.

The Centerpiece
To anchor everything, I brought out my beloved Anthropologie Minka vase and filled it with inexpensive faux olive branches from Walmart.

One of Chad’s decorating suggestions really stuck with me.
He said to think “September in Napa” instead of “October at the pumpkin patch.”
That simple idea completely changed the direction of the table, and I think it perfectly captures the relaxed look I was hoping to achieve.
He also described my decorating style as Desert Transitional with European touches, which made me laugh because that’s exactly what I’ve been trying to create without ever putting it into words.
What I Spent
| Item | Cost |
| Hearth & Hand Olive Napkins | $30 |
| Hearth & Hand Brass Candleholders | $40 |
| Walmart Faux Olive Branches | $47 |
| World Market Runner | Already Owned |
| Anthropologie Minka Vase | Already Owned |
| World Market White Dinnerware | Already Owned |
| Anthropologie Goblets | Already Owned |
| Battery-Operated Tapers | Already Owned |
Total New Investment: $117

Styling the Rest of the Room
My dining room doesn’t stand alone—it’s part of one large great room that flows into the living room, bar area, and entry.
That meant whatever I did here also had to coordinate with the surrounding spaces.
I ended up giving the bar area a little refresh too, and I’ll be sharing that makeover in another post soon.
For these photos, I styled the table two different ways: one as it normally sits every day and another fully set for a meal. I hope that gives you a few ideas, whether you’re decorating for everyday living or entertaining friends.

Final Thoughts
I wasn’t trying to decorate for fall.
I was simply trying to make my home feel a little cozier after summer.
Sometimes all it takes is changing the greenery, adding a little brass, and bringing in one new color to make an entire room feel refreshed.
What do you think?
Have you started decorating for fall yet, or are you still holding onto summer like I am?
This little table refresh reminded me that you don’t always need a major makeover. Sometimes a simple home reset is all it takes to make your space feel new again.
As always, thank you so much for stopping by.
May God bless you and yours, and have a wonderful weekend.
P.S. If you’re wondering whether Chad approved the final result…he did. 😄
