Designing My Entryway: The Rug That Won + What I’m Considering Next

While we were out messing around on Sunday, we made the long trek to Pottery Barn Outlet. Honestly, if that place was closer, I would be there every week just checking to see what’s new. Dangerous!

You know how much I love my outdoor drinking glasses and I’m always hoping to stumble across something good.

Here’s the situation: I need a new rug in my family room. . . and new barstools.

So I’m officially on the hunt. But committing to a big purchase is hard when you can’t see it in person. That’s why the Outlet feels a little less risky—you can see everything firsthand and (hopefully) score a great deal.

Now, you might have guessed from the title and photos… what I needed and what I actually purchased were not the same thing. Entry rug was definitely not on my list.

But my current one was looking a little tired, and then I spotted the most gorgeous jute rugs. And they were 60% off.

Any questions? I knew you’d agree.

The texture of the Nova Jute Rug and the pattern are exactly the right mix of neutral, warm, and bright. I will admit—I’m slightly concerned the cats may view it as their new personal scratching post… but we’ll see how it goes.

If you’re trying to find the best neutral rugs for your living room, seeing them in a real space makes all the difference.

What’s Next

I did find a few beautiful options for our family room, but I wasn’t ready to commit. Instead, I uploaded photos into ChatGPT and had “Chad” mock them up in our space so we could actually see how they’d look.

And honestly? Game changer.

Option 1: Soft & Minimal (Etta)

In person this rug is SO plush and soft with charcoal gray dots on a cream background. It is stunning. I thought for sure it was going to be the one.

And then. Meh.

What do you think?

(P.S. ChatGPT didn’t clean up my house—it even left the cat toy right where it was. Accurate.) 😊.

Option 2: Subtle Pattern (Capitola)

Hub and I actually spotted this one on a previous trip, and he loved it. I wasn’t quite ready to commit at the time… so of course we missed out.

Looking at the mockup now, I think it’s a strong contender if we find it again.

Option 3: Warm & Natural (Nan Jute)

This was John’s favorite, and it’s definitely striking. But to me, it feels better suited for our living room than the family room.

Option 4: Patterned Neutral (Erin)

This one is my personal favorite—and also the riskiest.

Patterned jute rugs are very “in” right now, but I do worry they lean a bit trendy. Maybe even slightly coastal… which is funny considering we’re nowhere near the ocean.

But still—stunning, right?

Wrap Up

Our entry rug is a 5′ x 7′, which works perfectly. For both sitting rooms, we’re looking at 8′ x 10′.

And truly—size matters. Too big or too small can throw off the entire room.

So now I need your help… I’ve shared all the options.

Which one would you choose?

I think I already know which one I’m leaning toward… but I’m curious—would you go safe, or take the risk?

Thank you for joining me this week and may God richly bless you and yours.
