Cleaning Home Organization

Midsummer Clutter Cutting

Are there projects you just know you need to DO but cannot make yourself tackle them?

I know. I’m right there with you.

And then something motivates you. A hard deadline. As in tomorrow has just arrived.

I have an exciting event coming up and I need to make some changes in my home.

And there is no sense bringing in new stuff without cleaning out the old.

And cleaning out the old leads to reorganizing.

Then one reorganization project leads to another!

This week I really got a midsummer clutter cutter going on and I am sharing it here hoping to give you motivation if you need it.

The Motivation

What’s the super fantabulous exciting event I’m preparing for, you ask?

My sisters are coming!

And my workout room/daybed guest room isn’t really all that friendly for adult sleeping.

So the daybed and trundle are going and I’ve ordered a new solution (I’ll post it when it’s complete).

The Purge

Getting rid of the daybed and trundle means I no longer need any of that bedding. And the new solution will need queen size bedding.

So perfect time to clean out the linen closet and umm, while I was in there? Well, let’s just say I’ve been holding onto some things from the 1900s. Really.

And throw pillows that have lost their appeal.

But someone will surely like them, right?

This picture is a bit embarrassing but maybe not the worst closet in the world.

Well. It’s much better now and I even have an empty shelf so my guests can be treated to new towels that will soon be housed here.

The white basket on the floor is full of cleaning rags. I even emptied that out, purged and neatly folded the rags.

You can see I hang my handy steam mop on the inside of this door. The organizer we mounted is from Home Depot. It has two kinds of hooks to hang a variety of different tools. It’s heavy duty enough to hold the steam mop, the Scotch-brite mop, a duster and the fan-duster head.

Bathrooms

I worked my way down the hallway purging anything that might have gotten tucked into the bathrooms.

No organization products needed to be purchased or used, because the goal is to have empty drawers and closet space for our guests.

Kitchen

If you cook most of your meals at home, that means a lot of grocery shopping. And a lot of grocery shopping means a lot of pantry and fridge activity.

All that activity makes it really hard for me to stay on top of those areas keeping them neat and organized.

Oh, and have I mentioned lately how much I hate cleaning out the fridge and even more hate cleaning out the freezer?

Since I was on a purging roll, I took a deep breath and dived into those areas.

On this day I filled the kitchen trash can twice and had the back hallway stacked with boxes and cardboard.

Because the other thing I did?

Our bathroom closet. Which was where we stick all the giant Costco packages of toilet paper, soap, tissues, etc.

I emptied out all the packages and organized the products so we can actually access them when we need them.

Ingenious, no?

Look at all that wasted space. And so messy.

And now, all the space is purged, the Elfa door rack is fully utilized and there are some empty spots for refreshed linens.

Wrap Up

Thank you for not judging the messy spaces I shared (again!) with you today.

If you have any spaces that need some attention, I can attest that once you’re on a roll it’s hard to stop. But it does eat up some time. And leaves you with sore muscles.

As always, may the good Lord shine upon you and yours and see you next week.
