Awesome productivity can be found in the tightest of timelines. If you want some motivation, I’ll share the fast and easy organization projects to tackle today and you’ll be a few steps closer to nirvana.
Nirvana? Yes! That’s how I feel when I open a door or a drawer and see a space newly organized and clean. Ahhhh.
My ongoing Living with Less projects have me getting into nooks and crannies I’d prefer to ignore, but can no longer.
Not every organization project has to eat up an entire day or break my back. My friend Julie said she is minimalizing and her strategy is to touch five things a day to toss, donate or sell. I love it!
I often employ what I refer to as my “Rule of Five.” Meaning when I stand up, I’ll do five things. For example:
- Pour a cup of tea (why I’m getting up in the first place)
- Wipe down the counter
- Check the cat food
- Straighten the food storage container lids
Whoops that’s only four. Ummmkay.
- Apply lip balm (I can always use lip balm)
Doing a few things here and there helps me keep tidy throughout the day. And makes me feel a little more productive. Since I’m a cross between hard laborer and vacationer I try to make the most of my day without killing myself.
I have also been “touching things once.” Meaning I don’t put a pile of laundry on my bed to put away later. I walk the five extra steps to my closet and take the two minutes to put it all away the first time.
It’s crazy how often I catch myself wanting to put something somewhere it doesn’t go meaning to put it away later. Just put it where it belongs NOW! Okay, I am!
Here is what I accomplished in less than an hour total:
Freezer
Our deep freeze becomes a black hole very quickly. Why? I guess when we get home from the store everything gets shoved in there before it melts. Okay, that’s not really why, but we’ll go with that here. 😉
In any case, I took everything out, wiped out the bins and organized all the meat, vegetables and bread products.
Because baking supplies will expire before I use them, I keep all the baking stuff in the door. Easy to find and to access.
Really, not even five minutes on this project, and it’s so much more peaceful finding something in our freezer.
Manicure Station
It’s really nail polish and my LED light for gels, but I like to refer to it as my manicure station. Here’s the crazy thing, my nail tools were in two different drawers because everything didn’t fit in the small drawer I originally had for nail polish.
What? It never occurred to me to move it all into a bigger drawer? Embarrassing, I know.
I went through all the polish and pitched what was thick or was a duplicate color. I wiped out all the little bins. (How much hair can one woman lose in every drawer in the house?)
There were false nails, glue, orange sticks; you name it in so many different places. Now everything has its own place. Once again, I’m so happy with how much impact this made.
Hair Tools
Since I moved my nail stuff into a bigger drawer, I had to address my hair tools. That wasn’t in my 5-10 minute plan, but I wasn’t going ignore the tools.
Now loose hair strands were to be expected in the hair tools drawers so I was prepared with the vacuum and all-purpose cleaner.
I think I can probably get rid of some of the tools, but for now, I just tidied them up and reorganized the drawers.
This part of the bathroom project maybe took five minutes.
Wrap Up
Are you in the clean up/clean out mode like Julie and I are? Do you have any tips and techniques to share to make projects more bearable?
These tiny wins in the organization projects are making me so happy. Like crazy happy to see something look so nice.
Blessings for a healthy, happy and productive week!
Like it! Bathroom drawers on my list since forever
I guess I should have been a little more transparent – I didn’t do ALL my drawers, but just the worst ones.
