Maui in February

Who knew a trip to Maui in February would be on our agenda? It wasn’t in the plans. It wasn’t on the bucket list.

How did we end up taking a trip to Hawaii?

Well, last April we celebrated our birthdays in Hawaii and the airline cancelled our return flight home. We made the best of the situation and I wrote about it here. But ugh! It was not great getting home.

But as a token of their deep regret (hahaha) we were granted vouchers for a trip to be taken within a year.

So we rounded up some good friends and used the vouchers toward to trip to Maui. And it turns out February is a great time to maximize a visit!

Denisse, Evon, John and I made the long trek over the Pacific and landed in Maui the last week of February. We had all been watching the weather and we were honestly a little worried it would be chilly.

Well, it was not. Warm and dry. Exactly what you want in Hawaii. Here’s a few suggestions if you’re considering a trip of your own or if you want to join us.

Water Time

The swimming pools at our condo were just perfectly warm and lovely. Don’t ask me why, but even after a day at the beach, a quick dip in the pool before cleaning up for the evening felt so good.

Sunset and evening were even more beautiful.

Beaches for swimming, snorkeling, turtle watching or just wave crash listening are plentiful and gorgeous.

We took two cruises – a sunset sail and a whale watching sail. February in Maui is a great time to see humpback whales. Mamas and calves are in their birth place, strengthening themselves for their trip to Alaska where they will eat and live.

Males and Females are showing off and singing loudly mating as frequently as possible.

We saw so many whales surface, slap their fins and tales on the water and of course, blow water from their spouts. Or whatever they are called.

Honestly, if you want whale information, you might have better luck with Google than from my blog. But we had a wonderful time watching them.

Golf

The condo we rented was on a golf course in Kapalua on the north side of the island. Hub met some nice guys visiting a few doors down and joined them for a day on the links.

In the evening, we all took walks along the path on on the greens with our shoes off.

Walking/Hiking

We spent a day on the (in)famous road to Hana. For first time Maui visitors, the trip is worth it. But once crossed off the list, we all voted we would skip it next time.

Because the weather has been dryer than normal, the waterfalls were not as spectacular as we hoped, but so beautiful anyway.

We mainly drove on the day trip, but we were able to take a very short hike.

The neighborhood we stayed has a great beach walk and butts against the Ritz. Which is the most gorgeous property ever.

And a great place to find a restroom on the a.m. walk.

Wrap Up

Thank you for joining me on a very quick synopsis of our unexpected and wonderful trip.

What is in your near future?

God bless and have a good week!
