Hello, Autumn. Where are you?
Here in Arizona, fall decorating is a little different.
We may be pulling out the pumpkins and cozy throws, but we’re certainly not pulling out the sweaters. It’s still dang hot outside.
Here in Arizona, we expect so little out of September.
But the rest of the country?
Falling leaves. Crisp mornings. Evening bonfires.
Well, that’s what we want.

With just a few little nods to the season, I thought I’d show you what I’ve done in my rooms to cozy things up for fall.

Simple Fall Decorating in the Bedroom
I removed the Americana quilt I used over the summer to celebrate the patriotic holidays and put my beloved Pottery Barn Scarlett quilt back on the bed.
Instead of using the red side, I’m primarily using the cream side and then turning down the top for a big pop of red, including the shams.
The cozy throw at the foot of the bed adds a little texture and has turned out to be a favorite spot for a kitty or two.
Yes, I’m perfectly happy with that.
Using What You Have for Fall Decor
If you want an example of using what you have for seasonal décor, this is it.
I bought absolutely none of these things new.
I just came up with a new way of styling things I already own.
Everything old might not look new, but it can look collected, cozy and just right for the season.
A Little Fall in the Kitchen
I love big kitchen islands with large pottery vases and huge stems.
Umm… but I don’t have that.
I have a modest-sized island that houses a farmhouse sink and is also where we eat our meals.
So décor here always needs to be minimal.
Otherwise, it’s just in the way.
Using an old dough bowl, I added the orange slices I dried last year and wrote about here. They are still just like new.
A few cinnamon sticks and pinecones added to some little white pumpkins are just enough fall for the island.
Nothing elaborate.
Nothing that needs to be moved every time I make dinner.
Perfect.
Adding Fall to the Breakfast Nook
This small corner of my home is perhaps the most decorated in a traditional fall sense.
The maple leaves, vintage embroidered table scarf and black chairs really give it a fall vibe.
I couldn’t resist snapping a picture while Kinsey was grabbing a bite to eat.
A brown tabby is the perfect autumn cat, don’t you agree?
A Seasonal Fall Bookcase
This area is quite overlooked by anyone visiting my home.
I love this arched bookcase, but it’s tucked into a corner and, frankly, its primary purpose is to house the cat food supplies.
But…
It is so beautiful and gives me an opportunity to collect all of my seasonal doodads in one place without scattering them throughout the house.
There is one new purchase in this bookcase.
Can you guess?
It’s this little bouquet of pampas grass from Walmart that cost less than $7 and is the perfect addition of texture here.
I love that it feels seasonal without screaming FALL!
Cozy Fall Touches in the Family Room
A kitty and a candle.
Who needs more?
Apparently, I do not.
The candle is the amazing-smelling Fall Pumpkin Apple candle I purchased from Walmart.
I’m still loving it.
I do want to give a little nod to my dear friend Cassandra, who reminded me that scented candles may not be great for our health.
She is absolutely right.
If you are concerned about endocrine disruptors, allergy triggers or other potential issues with scented candles, please use them with caution and make the choice that is right for you.
For me, right now, I’m enjoying this one.
And apparently, so is the cat.

Or maybe you simply want to pull out a few beloved things you use year after year and find a new way to display them.
You don’t have to completely redecorate your house for every season.
