This may come as news to absolutely nobody, but Labor Day weekend is next week. I know!
Just as I was preparing for Easter, it is now August. How does this happen?
Anyway, all the beautiful autumn designs are flooding in, and they will probably be on big sales next week. I’ve been looking at the trends, and I want to share a few of the things I’m seeing—and, more importantly, where you can find them.
By the way, I am not an affiliate of any of these stores and I’m not trying to sell you anything. But I’ll link what I like for your convenience.
Rich, Warm Colors for Fall
What I love about this fall trend is that not everything is screaming pumpkin orange.
Don’t get me wrong. I think orange is about the happiest warm color, and I am always about happy.
But a neutral home might look even better styled with some of the popular fall colors that coordinate with what you already have.
Think ivory, olive, warm gold, chocolate brown and other rich, earthy neutrals.
Target carries two of my favorite design lines—Studio McGee and Magnolia—and both are showing beautiful warm neutrals for fall.
My recent purchase of the olive napkins and brass candlesticks came from the Magnolia line, and they are keepers!
And those little wood salt and pepper shakers? Studio McGee. Definitely a splurge, but they were too pretty to resist.
Warm Wood is Back
I have been really attracted to the trend toward more traditional furniture.
Pottery Barn’s Chris Loves Julia line of modern traditional furniture is so pretty. The stacked-ball detail on some of the wooden furniture just hollers out:
“LOOK AT ME!”
And I holler back:
“GET IN MY HOUSE.”
Even their lighter wood finishes are warm and beautiful.
Oh, and guess what else Pottery Barn has this year?
French Country.
Yep. It’s back.
My absolute favorite look in the whole world. When I win the lottery, my whole house is going to be “Desert Meets France.”
A girl can dream.
Cozy Texture for Fall
Walmart has outdone itself this year by, dare I say it, duping Pottery Barn’s cozy throws and pillows.
Better Homes & Gardens has a faux leather pillow in the ideal designer size of 20″ x 20″ for under $17. It pairs so nicely with fall plaids and floral pillows to give a sofa that warm, layered look.
And their chenille knot oversized throw comes in gorgeous colors like Gingerbread, Brown Basket, Cyprus Tree, Vanilla Dream and Violet Gem.
They are just amazing looking—and under $20.
Pottery Barn has a similar look with its Bayside Seed Stitch throw blankets. The Pottery Barn versions are a bit smaller and quite a bit more expensive.
Ummm…as in $100 more expensive.
I am in no way joking.
Now, an expensive throw may absolutely be worth the money to you. But picking up a beautiful seasonal color at a reasonable price that can be thrown right into the washer and dryer is my kind of deal.
Because I actually use my throw blankets.
And I like them smelling fresh.
Because sometimes there is a kitty who likes to snuggle with me.
Plaids & Florals
Another easy way to bring fall into your home is with pattern.
Plaids are an obvious choice, but I love mixing them with florals rather than going completely “fall themed.”
A plaid pillow paired with a floral pillow and a cozy solid-colored throw can make a sofa feel ready for autumn without requiring you to replace everything you own.
Warm Candlelight
Fall doesn’t have to mean buying a dozen seasonal decorations. Sometimes all you need is a candle.
Also at Walmart, there is a viral Farm Apple Pumpkin candle that everyone is raving about. I am a little too nervous to buy it without smelling it first, so I will likely take a field trip to Walmart (after all, you don’t just run to Walmart, right?) and take a sniff.

Fall candles make your home smell like you’re baking something yummy without having to enter the kitchen. BONUS!
And honestly, this is probably my favorite way to decorate for a new season.
Where to Find Fall Design Trends
Small changes. Big difference.
Look for these pieces at Target, Walmart, HomeGoods, World Market and even your local thrift or antique shops.
Or…You can do what I do. Shop my home. It is not as fun but very satisfying!
You certainly don’t have to spend a lot to get the look.
