Entertaining these days looks so much different than it did a few years ago.
Not only do I not have the energy I used to have, I find my friends are mostly in the same boat.
Friends who are caring for elderly parents.
Friends helping adult children.
Friends spending time with grandchildren.
Life is just different now.
And while I don’t love it, I accept it and do what I can to enjoy snippets of time with friends.
I recently shared my cuckoo Trader Joe’s run and this week, we hosted a teeny, tiny get-together and I put together a charcuterie board.
It seems like not all that long ago, I was putting together boards frequently. And this is the first one I’ve put together in a while!
Here is what I did:
Charcuterie Board
The base of the board was plain ol’ cheese and crackers. The TJ cheese party tray has the perfect assortment of mild sliced cheeses (my fav is the jalapeno, of course!).
Strawberry Jalapeno crackers are seasonal, I always pick up three boxes – they are addicting!
Yummy sourdough crackers are a Costco find.
Next I filled in with fruit: a few green grapes, peeled and halved mandarin oranges and dates.
Last I used a couple of handfuls of almonds and ultra-delicious Buc-cees pecans. May I say that there were NO leftover nuts. Waste not, want not, right?
Fresh rosemary from my herb garden garnished the edges and added a little greenery and freshness to the board.
Crudites
We always have a crudité platter in the fridge, so we munched on that too. No recipe required!
Serve Ware
We ate off my adorable little Pottery Barn Provence melamine dishes – yes, plastic indoors.
And to top that off, for water glasses I used my new Better Homes and Gardens ribbed goblets made from a material called Tritan. Which I believe is just a fancy word for plastic.
These glasses have almost perfect reviews on Walmart’s site and I concur. Lightweight, sturdy, perfect size and attractive.
So what if they aren’t fine crystal?
They go right in the dishwasher.
Take that, lead crystal!
Wrap Up
And maybe that’s what my Motivation for People Who Are Already Tired series is really about — finding ways to enjoy life without making everything harder than it needs to be.
