Giving My Bar a Little Refresh with Olive Leaves

I recently shared the small update my dining room table received to celebrate late summer.  As in autumn does not show its face around here in August!

Because our entry way, bar, dining room, and living room all share one big great room, I couldn’t really give the dining table a late-summer refresh without thinking about the bar, too.

A quick note: I’m not affiliated with any of these retailers, and none of the links in this post are sponsored. I’m simply sharing them because I know it’s frustrating to see something you like and not be able to find it. If I can save you a little time, I’m happy to do it.

Here’s what I did:

Added Olive Leaves

There are enough olive branches in my house now to make you think you’ve wandered onto one of those fancy olive farms.

Sort of ridiculous.   But they are pretty and they fit right in with my desert-meets-European style.

Of the 10 branches I ordered from Walmart, I used four in my navy and white Mandala vase I purchased from Pottery Barn years ago.

That vase has been used in so many places in my home and just fits in anywhere.  PB no longer offers it but has replaced with others that are similar.

In fact I found an adorable Target/Studio McGee blue and white vase very similar to the PB Montrose and it is equally cute.

Added Brass Accents

To tie in with my new brass candlesticks on the dining table, I rehomed the Target Magnolia brass lamp I purchase a year or two ago.  Here is a similar one; apparently mine is no longer sold.

It adds warmth not only from its beautiful finish, but also the glow of the light.

And!  It’s cordless!

A gold-toned leafy vine table décor adds more of the brass tones and coordinates nicely.

Added Moss Bowl Filler

The large hammered metal blue bowl I have had for years from PB got a new home on the bar.  From Walmart, I ordered Better Homes and Garden moss bowl filler.  The green adds warmth and doesn’t compete with the table décor.

Made Cocktails

To celebrate the new look, we (by which I mean John) whipped up a pitcher of vodka lemonade.  It’s the same recipe we used when my sisters were out here last year.

Wrap Up

Maybe no one who walks into our home will notice exactly what changed. But I notice. And sometimes that’s enough.

I hope the overall look is cohesive and makes for a peaceful, relaxing space.  A space for friends to gather and enjoy time together.

Thank you for coming along with me on this small project.  I hope it motivates you to realize that even small changes can be quite satisfying.

May God bless you for a wonderful summer weekend!
