The Backyard Pergola That Completely Changed Our Outdoor Space

Just in time to spend a long, quiet weekend at home, our backyard projects are complete and I’m ready to reveal our pergola and how amazed we are at the difference it makes.

It truly feels like we have an entirely different backyard.  Looking out from inside the house, the pergola almost feels like an extension of our home.

Am I gushing yet?  It’s just that I have never had a project turn out so much better than I envisioned.

Monday we fired up the grill and turned on the fans and misters and didn’t mind that it was a touch warm at all.

Early mornings when the sun hits the bird bath fountain I’ve been enjoying my tea and reading.

And Roxy?  Well, you know she’s out there every chance she gets.

Hmm, what is best, evenings on the patio or mornings on the patio?  They are both fantastic.

Love/Hate the Birds

On one hand, I am leaving the fans on to discourage the red finches from their immediate desire to find a way to build nests in the new pergola.  I am not even kidding, less than 24 hours after the project was finished, a half dozen red finches were strategizing.

I love birds, but I finally had to declare, “Ladies and gentlemen, this area is mine!”  I turned on the fans and *poof*, that did the trick.

On the other hand, all humming birds are welcome.  They can be aggressive little stinkers, but I can’t resist them.

My hope is that the burbling solar bird bath will attract hummers, but so far I am the only one enjoying it.  I did see a black bird swing by one day, but that is it.

The glass koi bird bath is colorful and artistic and its bubbling sound is delightful.

The Whimsical Lighting I Didn’t Know We Needed

From Hobby Lobby John and I found the cutest hot air balloon string lights.

As soon as it gets the least bit dark out, the lights go on and the hot tub area becomes a place both of relaxation and joy.

These little lights changed the mood of the yard – who doesn’t love a balloon?

Wrap Up

Our patio has always been my happy place, but this project transformed it into somewhere we truly want to spend every morning and evening.

The new patio furniture and pillows combined with my loved teak pieces from before kicked off the improvements.

The pergola made such an astounding difference, we keep commenting on it to each other.

Then we topped everything off with fresh turf, a backyard trim and new irrigation.  I will update you on those projects soon, but I wanted to share the reveal now.

Thank you for coming along with me.  If you need a little motivation to upgrade your yard, I hope this gives you inspiration.

As always, may God bless you and yours and have a wonderful week.
